Middle Names

It seems quite common that often a family surname is continued down the female line as a first or middle name for any offspring.
This has helped us on a couple of occasions when we have been stuck.

It would be really helpful if we could have a search facility on the site which could search just by first or middle names.

Please Genes Reunited is this possible?

I agree with you on that

I hve many middle names that are the surnames of family marrying into family.

My grandmother put her maiden name as the middle one for all her 9 children, boys and girls
Yes,it is very handy when this happens, makes looking up so much easier

When I first joined GR (or Genes Connected as it was then) I'm sure you could search using middle names, don't know why they took that facility away, definitely a backwards move.

I'd like to see it reinstated asap.

Lets start a petition!

Come on GR, we need this new search facility!

Christine

Christine Report 29 Sep 2009 14:30

I've sent an email to GR asking them to add this facility - will let you know what they say!

Yes, please, may we have this facility?
I have found middle names an absolute Godsend; I found my maternal Gran's Gran through the family name (usually the Mother's maiden name) being carried on from Wales into Lancashire.
It helped me to get one brick out of a really nasty Welsh 'brick wall'!

Joanna

No hyphens in my family names - not posh enough! And these were middle Christian names.

Usually its called a "Hyphonated Surname" and you can find them. **M**.

Just heard back from GR - they say my suggestion has been noted!

I won't hold my breath!

They used to have that. It showed up middle names.
I also contacted them a couple of years ago and asked why they changed it as it was a great help.
I got the same reply as you did Christine,so dont hold your breath.

You could also look through the names your contact had in their trees, which made it easier than trying to look through sometimes thousands of names.

There was a search in LDS or IGI that you put in middle names and area I think, but I cant for the life of me remember the link.
