Just wondering...(Given that it is raining and freezing cold outside thought I'd explore the following idea...)

Has anyone worked out the percentage of where their family members have originated from?

For instance my tree is as follows (approx only):

English - 15%
Scottish - 55%
Welsh - 15%
Irish - 5%
Australian - 10%
American - 5%

Just curious how families have emigrated etc across the word over the years.

Cheers

until last week, 100% English - then I found a name that HAS to be 'foreign' - either German or Dutch. not sure if I'm excited or disappointed! it's back before 1800 so I probably won't be able to find anything more on it. so I would say 98% English (I've got quite a big tree lol)

Back to 1641 on Dad's side of the tree and 1690 on Mum's.

No famous people. No royal blood. No links with celebs (thank goodness), no rich ancestors. Just Ag Labs, miners, shipbuilders, servants, railway workers, millers, ironmongers, carpenters, soldiers, sailors.

Pure one hundred per cent English yeoman stock and very very proud of it.

I'm still trying to get my head around things following my stroke in April but hope to find out more soon. It would be great to find a medeteraen link or something more exotic

How do I put this into percentages?

I was born in Australia.
2 parents - both born in Australia
4 grandparents - 3 born Australia, 1 England
8 gr/grandparents - 4 born Australia, 4 born England
16 gr/gr/grandparents - 15 born England, 1 born Ireland
before that - all born in England (and maybe Ireland).

My OH came from Liverpool and his tree goes back to the 16th century - all from Lancashire - so my children are more English than I am!

BUT i have proved he is in fact 25% English, 25% Irish, 25% Danish and 25% German!!

His German grandfather and grandmother NEVER learnt to speak English !!!!

Through my childhood, my GT.Grandfather, my mother's Grandfather, has been 'a big fat dark Irishman, an Jew and a Gypsy, according to her. So, when I first started to put things together, it was not easy. Well, to the best of my knowledge, and various records, he was none of these. Nor was he 'big and fat', not according to a photo rescently acquired. Rather a short wizened man according to the photo. But, then none of us are very big, and one of his brothers was a jockey for the Kaiser, as was his cousins. No, they are Northants through and through, though some moved just over the border to Cambridge, but only just.
Now, I am having problems going back further than the records held at Northants Records, as the records for Eye Northants, have 'not stood the test of time' . I have though found a marriage in 1739, and that is it.
But, it got me thinking about the Huguenot Settlement at Thorney, just down the road for Eye, and wondered if that is where my 7x Gt.Grandad came from, as I think he was an incomer to Eye on his possible 2nd. marriage.
So, my question is, did the Huguenots keep their own records for BMD, and would a French Protestant, over the years turn to Baptist.
I have put out some searches on Records, and History board about the Huguenots in general, as I know there has been posts on here about two years ago, about this subject.
Many thanks

Dear All

Hello

I think about 95% English, sort of.

Most of my ancestors came from South England.

But I feel really attuned to celtic things. Maybe there is a link there.

I would love to find out where my gyspy ancestors originally came from.
No luck so far.

Best wishes to all
xx

LOL Annina, so you had a hypocrite for a parent as well? So did I, my mum was Queen Victoria reincarnate, no sex unless there was a ring. Then when I started doing my family history I discovered that both her grandmothers were illegitimate and also that her great grandfather was the result of a bigamous marriage!

Mum must be turning in her grave.!!!
