For me, a pub on the outskirts of Derby. Not that I have ever been in it, though I am told it is jolly nice. No, it signals for me the end of the city limits, with its ring roads, under passes, traffic,etc. You can tell I am not a car driver. I absolutely hate Derby city centre. and the approach from the other side of town from the Royal Hospital. Doesn't bother OH, he is a seasoned driver. When I pass that pub, I know a few yards further on, I am not only in some of our beautiful Derbyshire countryside, but I am on my way home from yet another session on the jolly old Morphine. I know it is naughty, but I light a ciggie at that stage.
I always say to the OH when he picks me up from the hospital, "Get me to the P******, safely." "Yeh" he answers, as if he wouldn't. Great faith in my OH. Been driving over 40 yrs, and touch wood, no mishaps, but it is just one of me little expressions on being let out of hospital, yet again.

The site of your house in your road when you have been away

Hong Kong Harbour at night viewed from The Peak. The Valley of the Kings.Salisbury Cathederal when you come down the hill from Southampton.The Milky Way seen from the Desert.The Atlas Mountains.And of Course North wales. also the first roses to bloom in my garden.**M**.

St. Michael's church in Aughton, Lancs - probably because I now know that so many of my direct paternal ancestors (and a lot of others on Dad's side) are buried there. Some have stones, some don't - but whenever I go there, I always go to find my great-grandparents' grave and my great-great grandma's next to it, just to see that the stones are OK.

I could walk round there for hours!

Anywhere that isn't sodding dirty filthy litter strewn yob ridden SHEFFIELD.

The first glimpse of land when sailing into Dunlearie (sp) hav'nt seen it for a good while now as the plane is so much easier, but one day ......

Almost anywhere in the Lake District (Well maybe not the towns) but especially Rydal water and Grasmere from the footpath that runs below Loughrigg. Grasmere from above at what we call High close. Tarn Howes, The hills and mountains from Tom Heights above Tarn Howes.

On a larger scale The Grand Canyon, Brice Canyon.

The buildings of Florence

The coast of Cornwall, almost anywhere. And, since this year, the coast from Burton Bradstock in Dorset looking across Lyme Bay to Lyme Regis.

Too many to think of really. and yes, I do also feel 'called' to buildings, love Gloucester Cathedral, and Exeter Cathedral.

Another one is the New Forest in Hampshire. Now my ancestors do come from Hampshire, but I love it because it was where I spent half my childhood, being brought up partly by my grandparents.

One of my ggg grandfather's was christened in Rye.

From our home in North Devon we could see Dartmoor on a clear day.

From our previous home in Surrey we could see Canary Wharf, the PO Tower, the Nat West buiding, St Pauls....

From our current home we can see....other homes, but just up the road there are wonderful views of Salisbury Plain and the surrounding area.........

We love it here.

Wales calls to me too.
I especially love the beaches of the Glamorgan Heritage coast.

Gwyn
