Re ' the Highwayman'...my teacher Mr Taggart at primary school in the Isle of Man , used to recite this to us, he made it so atmospheric, you could 'see' Bess stood with the musket beneath her breast.... 30 primary school children all holding their breath! |

It is good to see that we on GR are able to name six poets at least and sometimes more. Sad that the teachers were unable to do so, agree with Uggers they should at least have been able to name Shakespeare, Shelley, Keats and Byron. |

The Highwayman was one of my grandmother's favourites, Mau - she could recite the whole thing. Years later when I was studying Eng Lit the lecturer brought it up as an example of *bad poetry* but I never really grasped why:) |
