Ugger, I totally agree that the many of the people with trees on Ancestry are half wits (not sure I would rate some of them that highly) despite the fact that many of them claim to have a degree. I wonder how much they paid for it, or can you get degrees in idiocy?

Having said that, I must say that some of the people are great. I found some with my gt grandmothers sister and father. I now find that gt gt grandfather, his 2nd wife and 2 younger daughters went to live in America shortly after the 1871 census, which explains why I could no longer find them on 1881 etc or their deaths or the marriage of the daughters. It checks out as somebody sent a copy of the 1900 USA census for one of the daughters, and it included her step mother. I am now in touch with a descendent of the daughter. I dont have a sub to Ancestry but some lovely people on another website gave me the info that I needed. Some Americans are lovely, just as some English are too and some Kiwis and some - can I bring myself to say it?- Australians! No they really are nice, or most of them. We Kiwis love to say how terrible they are!

Your reply has solved a few mysteries!

Some of my folks were methodists about 140 years ago or so.
I didn't know that catholic records were kept in the diocese.
I thought they were transferred to the record office.

There are some Non Conformist records at the LMA but just depends what was deposited and none of them are on Ancestry yet - RC records are rarely deposited at any RO - usually kept by their own Archivists, so you'd need the relevant diocese

Allright cheeky!

I spent nearly 3 hours on and off trying to find an ancestors record on the new LMA archives.

Methodist and catholic church records don't seem to appear on the LMA.

It seems to depend on the district and the time period. Also, the areas that are now part of London were termed as Middlesex, Essex and Surrey and their records are fairly sparse.

lol Huia, that's a bit different - the PRs are digitised images of the originals and the transcripted indices aren't too bad, whereas the majority of trees with my relatives on on Ancestry are put there by half wits.

I would have found quite a lot - but our lovely Jean had already got them for me at the LMA :)))

I just hope that Ancesty's London PRs are more accurate than the trees that are on there. There are so many utterly ridiculous things that people have on their trees.

5 years i've been looking & that's why i need to get my butt down the library so i can look at the PR's

Julie, neither my great grandfather nor any of his siblings were registered but I did manage to trace their marriage eventually, with a lot of effort;)

Sue, on one of my lines, my 3 x gt grandparents had only 4 of their 13 children survive to adulthood.... all of the others died before their third birhdays, some as infants... they had a memorial stone built at the church in the village.... it is my hope to go there, soon, to see it for myself. It is in the church in Morthoe, Devon. I know they were devastated by each loss.

It is when you can find things......I have a family that are on all the census but i can't find births for any of the 5 children so therefore can't find a marriage for the parents

Now searching St Andrews by the Wardrobe for a marriage. Only problem I have is eye strain as keep looking at every page.

Found my OH 10th great grandparents marriage, what a find.

I hate finding the deaths of little ones. One family lost 3 children in 5 years. I know they had 4 more children but I can't believe they didn't grieve for the lost ones.

It's the little ones that get to me... I daren't blubber, cos I might not stop.... and I am not a pretty blubberer, like my sister! lol

I am certain that they would have had more children, and that they died (my 3 x gt Grandparents) but can't find anything.... but I have found his re-marriage to her sister, lol! I can't find that in the BMD, although it was just within the right timescale.

Oh well.... loads of time, not like I am doing anything else for a while, lolol!

you can have a bash at my lot if its that easy :) One tree Ive been quite succesful on over the years, another Ive only managed to go back three generations and a step brother I stop at his father - bang dead ends - I wonder if he used a false name!
