My dad is in the register 4 times, (5 if you include the registration crossed out as the poor registrar got confused! LOL) , with two different surnames at two different dates -each time it's handwritten at the bottom of the page.
Dad was adopted when he was 16 by the man my gran married.
Transpires he wasn't registered at his birth in 1926, and to be adopted had to be registered!
So, he's registered in 1926 under his birth surname (my gran's maiden name) and again in 1942 (when he was adopted) , again, under is birth name.
Then he was registered in 1926 and 1942 under his adoptive name.
It's definitely the same person - dad's adoptive name is quite unusual, and the hadwriting is the same in all the registrations.

It's quite common for a child to be reregistered after the parents marry. The later registration will probably have an odd page number starting with M, J, S or D and then 2 digits indicating a year. This refers to the quarter and year the birth actually took place.

Very often a birth was registered, then the child died, and a later child was given the same name. Could this be possible in your case? (In one branch of my tree, a few of them tried THREE times to get the name they wanted).

Are you talking about a 'registered' birth, or a baptism? In some instances, the wedding and christening were both done on the same day.

A birth could have been registered twice maybe before and after the parents married,
I have found a lady i was looking for a few years after the birthdate i had on BMD, I was just trying to find siblings of her mother in her maiden name and found a birth matching the birth date i originally had but surname & mothers maiden name the same...
Coincidence maybe, but the second birth registered which i think is the same person, was registered same month, year & place as the marriage??
Could it be possible the birth was registered twice??
