Back in the early 1960's one of the local lads used to sing to my friend-

"When it's spring again, I'll nick again
Tulips from Handsworth Park
With a love that's true, I'll nick for you,
Tulips from Handsworth Park....."

Don't know if this counts!

There'll be bluebirds over
the white cliffs of Dover
tomorrow. just you wait and see. There'll be love and laughter and peace ever after,
tomorrow, when the world is free. There'll be bluebirds over
the white cliffs of dover
just you wait and see.

Well it has to be this one really as I cannot think of another at ths moment in time.

Sittin' in a sleazy snack-bar
Snuckin' sickly sausage rolls
Slippin' down slowly, slippin' down sideways
Think I'll sign off the dole
'Cause the fog on the Tyne is all mine, all mine
The fog on the Tyne is all mine
The fog on the Tyne is all mine, all mine
The fog on the Tyne is all mine

Could a copper catch a crooked coffin maker
Could a copper comprehend
That a crooked coffin maker's just an undertaker
Who undertakes to be a friend
And the fog on the Tyne is all mine, all mine
The fog on the Tyne is all mine
The fog on the Tyne is all mine, all mine
The fog on the Tyne is all mine

Tell it to tomorrow, today will take its time
To tell you what tonight will bring
Presently we'll have a pint or two together
Ev'rybody do their thing

We can swing together, we can have a wee wee
We can have a wet on the wall
If someone slips a whisper that its simple sister
Slapped them down and slavered on their smalls
'Cause the fog on the Tyne is all mine, all mine
The fog on the Tyne is all mine
The fog on the Tyne is all mine, all mine
The fog on the Tyne is all mine ....

She,s a Lassie from Lancashire
She,s a Lassie that I love dear,
Though she dresses in clogs and shawl,
She,s the fairest of them all,
None could be fairer more fairer than Sarah,
My Lassie from Lancashire.
Margaret.

Not very old - but some of you may know it:

Winchester cathedral
You're bringin' me down
You stood there and watched as
My baby left town

You could've done something
But you didn't try
You didn't do nothing
You let her walk by

Now everyone knows just how much I need her, that girl (are you that girl)
She wouldn't have gone far away if only you'd started ringing your bell

Winchester cathedral
You're bringin' me down
You stood there and watched as
My baby left town

Just a phrase from a song that I can hear in my head.
We'll hitch old Dobbin to the shay, and through fields of clover we'll go down to Dover on our Golden wedding day.

Sorry, had to google because I didn't know any!! Apparently it is a folk song!

Our sheepshearing done, to our master we come,
Who enjoins us to sport as we please;
Then beside plough and flail o'er our fleece and our pail
We will boast of our fine wool and cheese.

(Chorus)
Our sweet shepherdess then will we chorus amain,
And rejoice in our dairymaid's praise,
Our dairymaid's praise, dairymaid's praise;
Our sweet pretty dairymaid's praise.

Should your wishes incline to beer, cider or wine,
As you sit with your pipe at your ease,
Their true flavour to find always keep this in mind,
Clear your taste with a bit of old cheese.

Like Gloucester Noke, we'll sing and we'll joke,
And be merry whenever we please,
Drink the fleece and the pail, the plough and the flail,
O'er a relish of best making cheese.

Join hands then, unite with joy and delight,
This happy occasion we'll seize,
And with am'rous desire we will drik "May our Squire
Live long, and enjoy his own cheese!"

FINCHLEY CENTRAL
(Alan Klein / Geoff Stephens)

The New Vaudeville Band - 1966

Finchley Central is two and sixpence
From Golders Green on the Northern Line
And on the platform, by the kiosk
That's where you said you'd be mine

There we made a date
For hours I waited
But I'm blowed, you never showed

At Finchley Central, ten long stations
From Golders Green, change at Camden Town
I thought I'd made you, but I'm afraid you
Really let me down

There was one about the area I originally came from, Finchley, in North London, but I cannot remember who sang it. It was during the early sixties.

Finchley Central is two and sixpence from Golders Green on the Northern Line.......

That is all I know.

The Lincolnshire Poacher
When I was bound apprentice in famous Lincolnshire
Full well I served my master for nigh on seven years
Till I took up to poaching as you shall quickly hear
Oh, 'tis my delight on a shiny night in the season of the year.
As me and my companions was setting out a snare
'Twas then we spied the gamekeeper, for him we didn't care
For we can wrestle and fight, my boys, and jump from anywhere
Oh, 'tis my delight on a shiny night in the season of the year.
As me and my companions was setting four or five
And taking them all up again, we caught a hare alive
We caught a hare alive, my boys, and through the woods did steer
Oh, 'tis my delight on a shiny night in the season of the year.
We threw him over my shoulder, boys, and then we trudged home
We took him to a neighbour's house and sold him for a crown
We sold him for a crown, my boys, but I divven't tell you where
Oh, 'tis my delight on a shiny night in the season of the year.
Success to every gentleman that lives in Lincolnshire
(Alt. Bad luck to every magistrate)
Success to every poacher that wants to sell a hare
Bad luck to every gamekeeper that will not sell his deer
Oh, 'tis my delight on a shiny night in the season of the year.
