Ah! but does that justify a knighthood,
after all,
he is not even a singer is he? or a do-er of good deeds......

Well he did keep an awful lot of people employed, yes, yes I know a lot were made redundant too. However, he did his best with the funds available.

If you are in certain sports or a showbusiness celeb all you need to do to be made a Knight or Dame is to live abroad and pay no taxes in the UK but contribute to a political party's funds or to a royal's charity.

As I said, "who is Ross Brawn"?

Realist. Ross Braun is the boss of the Formula One Braun racing team, which has won the constructors championship in it's first season AND the drivers championship. Jensen Button and Reubens Barichello both drive for Braun.

Previously he was boss of the Ferrari team, and before that Renault. He has won the constructors championship with ALL THREE teams.

Big Deal.

Lisa Potts put her life on the line and still bears the scars from protecting nursery children from a machette wielding maniac. She only got a George Medal because of a year long media campaign, the establishment did not want to know.

As I said: if you are a sports or showbiz celeb .......................................MBEs, OBEs, CBEs, Knighthoods, Damehoods.............................................

Giving credit where it may be due, Ross Brawn IS a man of accomplishment, and what he has achieved is no mean feat,

tongue in cheek a little here,,,,,,,,,,,

BUT the *also rans" that deservedly get awards are not in the big league for the bigger awards are they?,
unless they are already well known........

take shooting, for example.........how often does a shooter get even nominated for sports personality of the year?olympic medallists, commonwealth games medallists? dont even get a look in......

its those that are already in the limelight that get there......

They give them away like "Greenshield Stamps " nowadays.Perhaps if they had to prove their Knighthood in Battle as in Years gone by, there would be a lot less, other than that perhaps the Queen should Dub them with a "Broadsword" and perhaps Slip Occasionally, then there would be a lot less.**M**.

Merlin

Merlin Report 27 Oct 2009 15:34

Meybe so. But thats Mythology,Perhaps "Brawn is a bit of a Mith. After all what did he get from The Italians? and lets face it, He did,nt Build the Engines, just tuned them,or at least got his Mechanics to.**M**.

But if we refused to recognise sporting achievements, albeit some are easily handed out it seems, then surely we are also stating that sport isn't important. Yet there are some who have not received their awards for being famous, but for the work they have done behind the scenes, involving schools and local organisations.

Take for instance Chris Hoy, the olympic cyclist. He got his gong, not for winning several golds in the Beijing Olympics, but for the work he had put in at home, encouraging kids to get into cycling, battling with councils to allow a velodrome to be built, and better facilities for kids all round. Should we not give him that award because he's a sportsman? Or should we give it him in recognition of USING his sporting position to influence the authorities for the good of underprivileged kids who might otherwise not have had the opportunity to have done so.

It's not black and white...and I'd rather have someone like Ross Braun getting a knighthood than the greedy overpaid, overbonussed bankers that have ruined this country's economy.

And realist...there's no need to be rude with your 'Big deal'. You asked, I was the only one who bothered to answer you.
