Knocked over or fallen over?

I've been in Belgium this last few days, visited several CWGC cemetries and they are so beautiful and so well kept ...

Ouch.

I must say, that over in Belgium and France the municipal cemetries are lovely too. Very well looked after and always full of flowers. It's a sad indictment of the world we live in today that we can't instil the same measure of respect in our children (well, I could in my child but you know what I mean!).

Several members of my family have been cremated, but they all have a small flat memorial stone. There is space left on our son's for me and OH when our time comes.

I think desecration of graveyards is awful and unecessary too!
Makes you wonder what's going on with their half bain cell.
Hopefully, when I die, I'll go to the same place as my BIL - a woodland cemetery, with a large tree planted over me.
Like to see the idiots try to kick that over!!

We had some trouble last year with headstones being pulled down ..YOBS
I am happy to say the only things knocked down in my local village Churchyard are the vases and pots with flowers in.They get blown over in the wind .I walk around there a couple of times a week and always put them upright again lol.
I just don't understand some peoples mentality. The mind boggles.

I know exactly what you mean Keith and have had a lot to do with churchyards especially, but just a thought, they haven't been laid down for safety's sake have they? A lot of red tape about nowadays and some authorities are laying down headstones which look dangerous.

Locally in a churchyard, we now literally have tape around a monument which has been leaning over for donkey's years. Such is life....or death!

gosh, I would hate that as well, just bought my Stephen's, who would do that?:?

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 31 Oct 2009 22:19

It's usually the old and slightly wonky headstones that are the target for vandals and probably one reason why the authorities want to lay them flat apart from the fact they may fall on someone.

There are also those who use graveyards for black magic purposes and those who break into churches to perform acts of desecration.

What a world!

How can anyone be so cruel as to damage a headstone, some people have no respect :O(

Here in Germany the cemetaries are so well tended, my daughters friend passed away this month and when we went to the funeral we went passed many old headstones and every one was tended and had flowers and mementos on it.

Tomorrow i it the day when all the families will go to pay their respect to loved ones they have lost, they will tend the graves and place flower arrangements and candles on them and the look beautiful ........... such a shame to see the way many of our cemetaries are left in a state of dis-repair nowadays :O(
