The poppy appeared on my screen within the last 2 hours!!


I KNOW we don't do anything here until the actual day, which is Wednesday. There are no special church services for example on Sunday


but still .....................



why so long after everyone else????

I haven't bought my poppy yet

Remembrance Day, November 11, is a statutory holiday in Canada except in Ontario and Quebec................ all Remembrance services at cenotaphs etc are held that morning. Schools usually hold services the day before.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

John McCrea



Flanders, in north-west Belgium, was the scene of one of the bloodiest battles of the World War I. One of the few things said to have survived the bloodshed was the poppy. Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrea, a Canadian doctor serving on the battlefield, wrote this poem after treating the battle wounded and burying the dead.
