Hello Frosty.

Well done for giving up. When you are 'tempted', just think of all the money you have saved and of course the benefits to your health lol

Hi Frosty thats brilliant, please don't be tempted to start again. My dad died 2 years ago from lung cancer and he blamed it on his smoking. It was awful watching him suffer those last six months.

Well done you!!

Now, your goal is to get through the next 6 months....it will be easier than the first 6 months, honestly! It does get easier as time goes on. I know everyone loves telling you that, but it's true.
I'm almost at my 10 yr anniversary now.

Well done. It is hard; I do empathise.
You may start again, I did several times before finally I stopped smoking.
When I was in a car crash six years ago, the first thing that I wanted was a cigarette, and someone gave one to me, but I didn't smoke it, just kept it in my handbag for a while. The last time I had a cigarette was in 1992; goodness, that sounds a long time ago! If you really want to stop, you will, but it has to be because you are doing it for you, not because anyone else tells you to do so :-)

Good luck!

Good for you Frosty, keep it up!

My father died of lung cancer caused by almost constant smoking for most of his life - my son when he was about five used to say Grandad, smoking is bad for you and my Dad would say, it's ok, I know what I am doing, but I know when he developed the cancer and knew he wouldn't be around for much more of his beloved grandson's life, he was upset and would have changed things had he realised. He smoked cigs, cigars, a pipe, rollups, etc etc

My son smokes a bit now - he is 27 - but only the odd one or two at the weekend or if out with smokers, I hope he doesn't forget the agony his Grandad went through and will not smoke more often, would prefer he gave it up completely.

I think those ads with the children talking to their parents must be helping people stop smoking, I hope so anyway.

You must have given up at the same time as me Frosty. I gave up once before and lasted 3 months then spent the rest of the time regretting starting again...this has stopped me even thinking about lighting up again.

My house is fresher as are my clothes etc so don't give in......hopefully it will get easier.

I gave up 20 years ago ,and can honestly tell you ,i still get the odd moments in a dream in which i have started again and it's a relief to wake up.
As one person has said already .if you get through a couple of months without having one ,you have cracked it .just think of something else when it happens.Fred.

Well done,Frosty, and everyone else who has given up.I'm a non-smoker and I would love my OH and son to give up. Why they pay to draw deadly cancer- causing carcinogens and dreadful chemicals into their lungs is absolutely beyond me. Just think of all the money you're saving, your sense of taste and smell is keener, and your clothes and breath don't reek of foul tobacco smoke. Don't even think of weakening, you have come so far now,the worst is well behind you.You obviously have lots of will power!

Margot.

VERY WELL DONE FROSTY.....
keep up the good work.
I gave up so long ago, I have forgotten when, but it was over 20 years
My husband gave up 17/18 years ago.
He was so dishonest..... he stopped smoking and started going for about 25 walks a day!!!
That is not a joke. He used to hide his fag packet in a bush outside the house wrapped in plastic....
The funniest day was when someone found them and went off with them!!!

You keep going Frosty and anyone who is trying to stop today... GOOD LUCK.

Deanna, that made me laugh, bet he swore when he couldn't find his ciggies, are you sure you didn't take them and chuck them away lol?

I hope your family don't smoke indoors near you Margot as they can cause you health problems if so, a bit mean as you don't smoke, but passive smoking can kill too.

O.h.'s son who moved to America and got married, has smoked for a few years now, since he moved in with a different girlfriend's family who all smoked. He is now living with his new wife and her two little girls and I don't know if she smokes, but he does still. Yet they are having major problems because he still isn't allowed to work so she is doing two or three jobs to keep things going while he looks after the children, and he is spending her money on cigarettes! Should be the first thing to give up I would have thought!
