Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 30 Nov 2009 00:26

Sorry folks, haven't been back to this thread for a bit, been busy.

I heard an interview with one senior serviceman who said that due to so many parcels etc being sent, the ones from home which were most important to the folks away from home are being held up in the post because of unsolicited mail and parcels..

So why do the servicemen and women ask for folks to send things then?
Seems you can't get things right whatever you do!!!

Sorry for the delay, I have only just seen this. Wouldn't have minded if you'd PM'd me!!

I don't know which BFPO code goes where. I know for the areas currently in conflict the mail goes free of charge, and to the other areas you have to pay.
The current free BFPO codes are.....715, 755, 758, 764, 767, 772, 779, 792, 632, 635, 639, 643, 684.
I'm guessing these are not static/permanent, but they are current at the moment.

Rita, I am sorry I only know what I have copied onto the threads.

I am sorry you had to pay a lot for some of the messages, I will try to mail Katie again but I think she just forwarded what was asked of her.

I wonder if Karen can find out through her help with SOS

Yes Liz, I remember your thread from last year(?) years ago, and it got nudged up very recently, but now seems to have plunged back into the depths again.

Hope everyone's busy writing their letters and packing their shoeboxes this morning!!!!! LOL

Sorry to hijack your thread Liz....but........

for those of you who have packed a shoebox and don't know where to take it......
look at the SOS website to find your local representative and take your shoebox, unsealed, to them. They will do the rest, ie check it, weigh it, pack it for overseas, fill the customs forms etc. Don't take it to the post office yourself and pay for the postage etc. because for BFPO addresses in areas of conflict, these parcels go free of charge. However, some of these parcels are needed in other areas where our troops are serving but which are NOT a war zone.
Your local SOS representative will know what to do....

You can still send them to the other address I put up as Katie says they are still sending letters etc via the mag but as Karen says, these lads will pass stuff around I expect.

You can always put an email address in if you don't want to give you home address - I am sure any contact will help bring cheer to those who will be far from home this Christmas time. Our Royal Anglians have gone out again, minus the lad who got killed in a car accident a few days before they left, as he has been out to say goodbye to his mates.

Thanks Barbra, and all of you sending things to the servicepeople.

I have written to Katie to ask her to check her details and will let you know if she finds something she has missed off the email info.

Jan, it's a nice idea but I think they like personal mail so if we send to them they can distribute amongst their mates. By all means do a big card too but give it a week till you are feeling better and if people want to send messages to you to put on the card then they can rather than send seperate things.
thanks a lot for the thought

I only have what info is on here, copied and pasted from Katie's email so maybe just send something with your address on the back and see if it comes back if not, send more. I am sure the post office will get it to the right places.

I copied and pasted the message so it's Katie's error, but yes, I would guess it's an F so will alter it.

thanks Karen

Are you sure that the first address ends with BPPO and not BFPO??
