O.h. is cycling this week, he needs the exercise with the new diabetes diagnosis, but it's been a bit of a struggle for him with some rain and high winds. I was surprised he didn't take the car today as it's very blustery but hope the rain holds off for both his journeys, at least if he gets wet coming home he can soon dry off, not so much fun if he arrives at work soaked. He does have wet weather gear but doesn't always take it and wouldn't stop and put the trousers on mid journey - he is stubborn like that lol

Very scarey weather here in North Wales, high winds and worsening by the minute, sky looking a little dark as well..........rain on the way me thinks!

Have my lovely 15month grandson today, so it will be cuddles and stories this afternoon.....probably under the duvet!

DL, I too would feel safer if it was my son in that situation. I am almost glad my son doesn't use his scooter any more altho it does mean he walks most of the time, or occasionally bicycles.

O.h. made it home in the dry! Not sure whether he will ride tomorrow or take the car as the forecast at the mo, is more rain!

My o.h. cycled to work, got there just in time before the heavens opened, and boy did it rain? It came down in stair rods for a while as my poor friend up the road is trying to move house!

Hope it stays dry now for o.h.'s ride home at 10pm

waether horrendous here , then it brightens up but blowy

Its brightened you a bit now in South Cheshire but about 1 hour ago it was that dark you'd have thought it was evening,in fact the street lights came on and torrential rain that came with it has flooded many roads.

Its been awful here in Cork, loads of people without drinkable water. Many have been washed out of their homes too..

Stayed dry altho blowy for the Christmas tree lights to be switched on, a poor show this year in my opionion, as don't seem to be any trees outside city hall due I suppose to the War Memorial gardens finally after years of promises and discussion, being renovated and turned round.

Instead of the lovely iceskating rink outside the library - the Forum - which has seemed so popular every year for the past several years, there is just one big tree plonker down - a very big tree but seems to have been just strung with lights, and that's it in that area which is usually so alive and vibrant and Christmassy. I will go and have a look another day when the city is not so busy, it was hectic with late night shoppers so my son and I didn't hang around.

I do feel sad for all those poor people being flooded in Cumbria and other places and hope everyone here stays safe, dry and warm

Despite the rotten weather it hasnt been all that cold here, thank goodness!.

I love an open fire, we have one at the cottage we sometimes rent on the West Norfolk coast, and it's wonderful.
I remember too well tho having to clean out the fire for my Mum when I was young, and it was a necessity every day in winter when we had no central heating, so not sure if I would want one now, unless only used on special occasions, as you say Maggie, Christmas and such.

Forecast for today seems better than I mentioned earlier, rain set to fall on Friday now so not so bad to watch the Christmas lights etc at the City Hall this evening, I can wrap up warm against the wind.

We seem to have come off lightly in this region at the mo, lots of wind but nothing as bad as in other areas.

On a positive note - my friend has been clearing the broken branches from the path behind his sister's house - and is bringing a load of wood over for me tomorrow :o)

more bad weather to come this week I think, including rain on Thursday here, the day the Christmas lights are being turned on at our local City Hall tree! Typical, the nicest one of the lot, used to take my son when he was small to hear and join in with the carols and stuff.

A boat was washed up on to rocks amid stormy weather near Lowestoft, Suffolk
More heavy rain and high winds are forecast for Monday, with gusts of up to 60mph possible in exposed areas, weather experts said.
Downpours later in the week could see northern and western areas lashed with up to six inches of rain in just two days on Wednesday and Thursday, said Meteogroup UK, the weather division of the Press Association.
Forecaster Matthew Dobson said: "We expect to see quite a lot of wet weather in the north and west areas, which could lead to flooding."
He added: "It is looking like there will be strong winds of 50-60mph across the north and west."

But he said that despite the rain and wind, temperatures would remain mild.
The country woke up to calmer weather on Sunday following Saturday's gale-force storms, but scattered showers throughout the day ensured that the weekend remained a washout for most.
With another heavy band of rain forecast for southern regions overnight, the Environment Agency has been warning homeowners to be alert to the risk of flooding.
Tidal flooding was not as serious as was feared following yesterday's wild weather, but agency officials estimated that 50 properties were flooded by rising surface water.
The agency has five flood warnings and 35 watches in force and dealt with close to 5,000 calls to its helpline on Saturday. A spokeswoman said further flood watches and isolated flood warnings may be triggered overnight and during the first half of this week.

"Most of the current flood warnings are expected to remain in force, especially those for some of the larger catchments in Wales, for the next few days as rivers remain high," she said.

There has been some damage done to property, houses and cars especially in some parts of the country. It was quite blustery yesterday so hope it will be calmer today, the trees at the end of the garden are still whipping about a bit.

The weather has been a bit hectic here in South Wales and supposed to be the same for the next two days. Surprised there are any trees left standing.

A bit gusty and some drizzle but hardly call it a storm...think the weather people are cautious after getting caught out by their denial over the great storm of (I think) 1987 which flattened half the country
