If you order his birth cert from the GRO (General Records Office), using the reference numbers given by Rose, that will give you his father's name and occupation too and will help you to go back a generation.

Abbey this is just an assumption, you would have to order either or both of Dennis and Brians birth certs to confirm father...but the Alfred J Simes who married Jessie Isden in 1929 MIGHT be

It costs a bit of money to view the 1911 census. It's not like ancestry where you pay and get unlimited views of births deaths and marriages and earlier census's.
