Well you get hormone replacement after a subarachnoid Haemorrhage ( SAH ) Because the part of the brian controlling our hormones may have been damaged

As the research on this treatment has been clinically proven it is a matter of choice-if it improves your health/quality of life then if you have confidence in your medical team go for it.

btw-I know several people who use treatments NOT prescribed for their ailments but licenced overseas on private prescription here.It is your choice & not your Doctors & no harm can be done enquiring about other peoples experiences unless your GP has had an SAH & used the same treatment this type of info can be invaluable.

Hi Keith , not a lot on the internet that isn't for doctors lol

but for ref,

"Subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) may cause damage to the hypotalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA) thus disturbing the hormonal response of these structures."

Seems clinical trials have been done but what the results were I don't know ....

"We will study the pituitary-adrenal hormone levels in patients with acute aneurysmal SAH and patients admitted for elective cranial aneurysm surgery will serve as a control population. We will use serum free cortisol calculation and total cortisol measurements as well as adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) stimulation test in assessing the responsiveness of the adrenal gland to exogenous ACTH. The hormone levels will be measured repeatedly during the first seven days after SAH and once at three months."

Grill your doctor :))

OK, the body produces all sorts of hormones. When talking about hormone replacement therapy, you do need to be more specific. The most common type of HRT is obviously the treatment that helps control symptoms of menopause and/or osteoporisis prevention/delay.

Other hormone treatmens include, thyridoxine for underactive thyroid, oestrogen implants for men with prostate cancer, as the prostate cancer feeds on testosterone, oestrogen is given to fool the cancer and slow, sometimes almost stop, it's growth.

So just because one person is having hormone implants or treatment doesn't mean its the same as another is having, nor will it have the same side effects.

Hi Keith, I wish you all the best. I know someone who had to take this because the pituitary gland was removed I think. This had quite an impact on her life. Speak to your doctor but I think it is a good idea to speak also to people who have gone through the same thing to see what emotions you may encounter or if they have experienced any side effects. Good luck.
