Sorry, Mrs. Crachit - I just couldn't resist it ;~))

I joined a few years back to find a half-brother I never knew anything about, then I got into doing my family tree and now I mainly help others on the TTF board in finding lost "living relatives".

I'm now in the throws of developing my own website based on tracing living relatives (for which a small fee will be required) which will help cover my costs etc, but I'll still do my freebies for folks on GR.

It's Cratchit CRATCHIT....:-))

Next year I shall choose a pretty name!

Is Rootsweb same as FreeBMD?

My 'whole' tree is also on my FTM and paper files; only a small part is on the internet.

I joined GR to find like minded people to share information with.

I only stay because I enjoy reading the threads on here. It's like having a bunch of friends to talk to any time.

I've given up on the cousins!

I would say that about 80% help / connections have been from rootsweb lists and boards.

Wend

Wend Report 28 Nov 2009 21:57

Thanks Joy - do you get more responses that way?

Joy

Joy Report 28 Nov 2009 21:52

Wen, I have my main tree on a family tree programme, not on the internet.

Most of my posts asking for help / giving help are on rootsweb mailing lists and message boards, rootschat site and family tree forum site.

I joined 5yrs ago to research my tree.

About a year ago, after helping a contact to find some info she was looking for. I came across the help boards, then Gen & Chat.

There are plenty of nice peeps George. They can often be found hiding in the nooks & crannies. So you may need to look under a stone or two to find them.

When a couple of you say you do your trees elsewhere - can you give a hint where that is, please?

I also have you confess that I personally an still here because I'm addicted. I've been on GR for 6 years now , I left once but was reeled back by the promise of a tree match , I wish I could walk away sometimes but I just can't : (
I can't remember when I had any " tree " activity on here.......I stay out of a mixture of hope ( that friendly chat can be had ) and morbid curiosity at the antics of the few .

Strange world isn't it ....................LOL

I'm sure that the nice friendly folk are still here George . They tuck themselves away inside the long running threads ( where it's safe ) : ))

I joined because my old mate Foggs said there are some cracking friendly people on here, some hes met and some he hasn't.

Reading the board lately I am beginning to wonder if he told me a porky.

Amanda2003 Report 28 Nov 2009 21:25

I come here for the vast selection of intellectual subjects that are readily available for discussion and debate : ))

And to watch in horrified awe ( ? ) as mad people slog out there differences over and over again...................LOL

The main reason: family history research.
