Popped over to Dad's for a couple of hours as my aunt is visiting and was interested in the work I'd done on the family tree.

I was digging through the certs in the box I'd taken round and I found the death cert of my G Grandfather.

I couldn't believe it when I saw the date. He died 86 yrs ago today !!!!

Got me thinking........how many people would think that two of their grand children and a great grand child would be sitting around discussing you so long after you've gone.........AND considering he was long gone when his grandchildren arrived. !!!xx

Funny you should say that Muffy.

I very often find new info on or around someone's birthday...weird or what?

I had something similar with a birth cert I sent off for a few years ago. It arrived on 11 November 2004 - the birth in question was 11 November 1859 - and I only remember this because the last time I was sorting through that family file and I came across it again was - 11 November 2009.

Must admit, it made me feel a bit shivery when I realised ...

Strange coincidences do turn up like that don't they . My newest Grand child was born on her G.G.Grandfathers birthday : )

I think it's wonderful that the likes of us " researchers " bring the forgotton ones back into the here and now . xxx

My coincidence this year has been awful, My Mum died on April 2nd, that as my granddaughters 16th birthday, then my one and only aunt Mum;s sister passed away on daughters birthday, we went on our cruise to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, it was also other granddaughter 15th birthday and we got phone call to tell us hubby's brother had passed away, he was cremated on our anniversary, so 2009 was not a good year for me and i will be glad to see the back of it.

That's what we do, Amanda - bring the past into the here and now.

I find it so strange when I find where an ancestor used to live and I take myself off there. Often the house itself isn't there any more, but I think: know what, Sue, you're sharing a bit of space with someone who went before. You never knew them, and they surely never knew you, but you're sharing the same space. Maybe not sharing the same time, but....

( and of course, Hello to Rachael)

You have just made me realise how long ago my 2 Grandfathers died,
both died at the age of 37 years, 1 in 1888, and the other in1896.
1 grandmother remarried in 1890, so my 3rd grandfather died in 1928.

My mums family come from Southampton. We knew gran was in service in Steep, near Petersfield.
When I moved to Winchester I thought I was the first - not so!
Gran said she lived here.
When she met grandad (who lived in Southampton) she got a job in Winchester as cook for the master of Music at the college.
I have seen the house she worked in, and every day pass by what used to be the station where she got her train to Southampton (now closed, and a car park!)

Frederick you just reminded me of something.

My dad died when he was 64. His dad died aged 64.

My mum died when she was 72. Her mum died aged 72.

Jill

(by the law of averages and all other things being equal it looks like I'll die at age 68!)

I thought my dad's family were all London based for generations.

I started doing genealogy when i moved up here over 5 yrs ago now.......and I was amazed to discover that most of dad's side came from this way and had moved to London (and surrounding areas) in the late 1800s.

Seems I came *home* without knowing it !!! Which is odd as I felt immediately comfortable here.......even though we'd moved over 100 miles away xx

Here's one from me:

I've always loved Bamburgh (if you don't know, it's a very small village in north Northumberland) . Every time I go there, I say to my cynical daughter "echoes across time, here". To which she says "Rubbish etc etc"

I recently started to trace my father's family tree. He left us when I was only three or four, so starting on this "adventure" I did with mixed feelings.

Anyway, a few years prior to that, , I bought a caravan in Bamburgh, on a small farm site called Glororum. I've always felt especiallly at home there.

So, when I started to trace my dad's tree, I found that his gr grandfather had come over from Ireland in the 1800's - and ended up as a farm labourer in - Glororum (population, at the time - 12) . How he managed to find his way there, given that he landed in Liverpool and must have passed hundreds of labouring jobs en route, I'll never know.

Like I said before, Amanda - sharing a space isn't much different to sharing a time - only we can see one, and not the other.

My mother died in 1961, when I was 21

I have always forgotten the date on which loved ones died ....... I guess that's my way of coping.

Daughter was born on March 24th 1974

About 1990, I was sent a photo of Mum's grave .............. she died on March 24th.

In the last year, I have discovered 2 other ancestors who died on March 24th:-

My dad's dad died March 24 1914

My mum's grandfather died March 24 1909

Daughter is now expecting her first child.

Due date? March 30th

Any one take any bets?????
