I really do beleive this and have put a big sticker on the board at work..........I've even gone so far as to treat hubby and I this week to a brand new all singing all dancing TV one of those really big thin ones with the Flat screen!!!!!

Ive booked in for a half day hypnotherapy and therapy session - I know you cant quit unless you want too, but I do and I really think this will do it for me!

Power to everyone that does - Im a firm believer you cant make anyone quit that dosent want too and Ive enjoyed smoking for over 25 years - but now I feel the time is right for me and If I can get through xmas and new year without a fag I can get through anything!

My house will still have smoking rooms for hubby and guests, I dont want to be a pious ex smoker, but I really hope I can do this - it will be harder than when I learned to drive and passing at almost 40! lol

and now I cant image not having my car!

Good luck to you Maddiecow and you too Stray. Hope you manage to stick to your plans and can save lots of money as well as feeling more healthy.

I went to take a wrongly delivered letter to a new neighbour on Saturday - he has only lived in the bungalow for about three months. Before that an elderly lady had it and it was so clean. When the chap opened the door
( he is on his own, aged about 60 and has lots of visitors) the smell of cigarette smoke nearly knocked me over, and I was so glad I and o.h. don't smoke, we both did years back but o.h. gave up when his kids were young and I stopped in my early twenties.
The smell alone on clothes and furnishings is horrid and walking behind someone smoking in the street really bugs me. It's nice to be able to go out to restaurants etc without ending up smelling of smoke and we noticed it again in Corfu, where people smoke anywhere they please with no thought for someone sitting next to them, eating.

We have a new tv, a Panasonic Viera (32" screen I think it is ) and it's much better than I expected now I am used to all the buttons on the remote.

Hiya Maddiecow.... I gave up on 4th April 2000.... lol I even remember the dte... I stubbed out my last ciggie and decided that I wasn't having another.

I had given up numerous times before, and for two or three years at a time, but usually when hubby was away and/or he gave up as well, he always started back before me, and I had no resistance, lol.... last time though, I had just had my third bout of pleurisy in 2 years..... and was frightened that each ciggy would be the trigger for a cancer........ you know, the one that broke the camel's back, so to speak? A bit ironic, really!

The first six weeks were the toughest... I had to make hubby and guests go outside, or I wouldn't have been able to do it. I bought the shed with the money I saved, and turned it all cosy as a smoking room, lol

At first I used to dream of smoking.... but now I can be in a room full of smokers and it doesn't bother me at all.... and I also think of myself as a non smoker, not an ex smoker, lol

You go for it......... as you said, you have got to be doing it for yourself, and not for anyone else...... you will be so proud of yourself! I also consider giving up to be my greatest achievement....... I did it all on my own with just two weeks of patches.

Good Luck......... xxxxxx

Thank you all for your kind words (SHE SAYS SMOKING A FAG) but The count down is doing me good, I also suffer pleurisy Daff and that is one of the reasons behind this but not the only one - I have been fortunate to be clear for the last two years, but a few years ago they were going to drain my lung if the last lot of meds didnt kick in and I know what a painful illness that is.

My worst bought about five years ago took me almost 18 months to recover, my problem is I rarely, if ever take time out from work and pnumoneia (sp) then went to pleurisy. Although only out for work for two weeks, it took me 18 months to recover fully - I would work and come home exhusted with no energy and breathing pain.

Ive had milder boughts since but know the signs these days to rest up and cut out the fags.

However, I need this count down and will now be a non smoker not an ex or cutting down.

Liz I have also bought a Panasonic Viera but the 42inch screen - hubby wanted a 60 inch bt I put m,y foot down or so I thought and agreed at 42 inch ...........until I overheard him talking to a mate ... your idea went down a treat - she hit the roof at 60 inch and settled for a 42!!

Ive been played I think pmpl!

Oh my, you were caught eh? I thought I would hate the one we have as I don't like big tvs dominating a room and this room it's in is only 12' x 16' but it is ok, and I am used to it now. The sound goes a big burbling now and then and it's not very good at being put on standby to get back on, so easier to get up and turn it off but otherwise it's quite good.

Good luck with becoming a non smoker!

Well done Maddiecow and hope Stray will be joining you. I smoked for over 40 years and am smoke free for 8 years now. It will be one of the most important decisions you make in life and it won't be easy. But you will feel liberated! Go for it! BCXX

If you want to do it,you will:-)
It is the most fantastic feeling to be free of the weed,In my opinion its the best thing you can ever do for yourself.
Good Luck, one bit of advice is this never look back ,once you decide to quit think of yourself as a non smoker,Alan Carrs book is worth buying if you can get hold of it,it deals with the Psycological impact after the cravings have gone:-))
