I don't usually do Christmas - much to the annoyance of my two (adult )
daughters! christmas tree usually (reluctantly ) goes up on Christmas eve.

Eldest usually drags me over to hers on Christmas day - which is lovely - she can certainly cook - and my son in law is a chef. However, I feel guilty as I don't drive, so one of them can't drink as someone has to bring me home again!

However, this year, eldest's hubby is now head chef, so he's working.
She has a choice, go to his parents, stay at home and her father, partner and her child (they are lovely) turn up, or come to mine, where we share the tasks and, as she said - 'Have a Christmas at home'. I was touched.

They'll come over Christmas morning (daughter & two grand children) and she'll drop hubby off at work.
Then she'll pick him up at 5ish and they'll all go home.
As eldest is pregnant - she won't drink - but it means he can ( a little bit )- he still has to cook for a few hundred!

Seven year old grand daughter is staying with me this weekend - so she can decorate the tree. She's also going to help me with my dolls house, while I try to get her interested in Maths ( having a bit of a problem at the moment). Amazingly, as my doll's houses are the usual one twelfth scale, I can easily casually ask her to measure things and try to work out the scale of things - and 'voila' - maths has a reason!! LOL

Grandson's birthday is on 30th December- he'll be two - so will go over there then - other than that I'll hopefully be alone!!

Sounds like I don't like my children and grandchildren- I do - I love them to bits - but I also enjoy 'me' time.
Could be something with bringing my children up on my own from the ages of 3 and 5.

We dont do Christmas either apart from having the next door neighbour in to dinner as her lot are always somewhere else, and at 92 she needs some company on such a day.

I think my girls are the only ones in their classes that haven't got their trees up yet.

I don't like to do it til after they've broken up from school.......then when it does go up they know Christmas is REALLY close.

Til that time they have their advent calendars ...and that's my only nod towards Christmas at the mo. lol.

This Christmas is way scaled down from previous ones......but i've been shopping for it since July so the girls will still be thrilled with what I've managed to get for them.

I have to be honest and say I do Christmas for the children.......if it wasn't for them I wouldn't bother. xx

Its only people that have turned it to what it is now....by Nov they have decorations up,spend ££££££on that must have,,.they need ,,,,I want children ............decs and trees are up in November so all the magic and excitement has gone,as by christmas day ,the tree and decorations has become part of the furniture,,,,,,,unnoticed after a month of being there.

it was a one time special thing when you got a once a year treat,

by christmas day lunchtime now its all over.

Marches in Crashing Symbals,....lol

I don't do Christmas either, except on the day my son comes to see me, but that's never Christmas Day. they always spend it with DILs grandmother, since she's been widowed, which is fine by me. I can't even afford to spoilt the grandkids this year, and I just know it's going to be held against me that I won' t be spending on my neices. I just can't do it. :-(

Especially as any money I had for them has just been spent on a new hoover (sorry),

I just hate the whole commercial pressurising we all have to put up with every year, when we can ill-afford it. If we celebrated Christmas for what it really is, and not a every-man-for-himself-hang-the-expense-let's-get-stupid-drunk debacle it is these days.

The whole thing just depresses me lol

I was fed up with doing what everyone else wanted.

So that when i said i dont want anyone around i was fed up with saying i am enjoying myself when all i wanted to do was hide away.

Befor mum passed last year, mum my sister and me use to have the 25th to ourselves then boxing day my sister use to come over pick me up then went to mum for few days, as we all felt the same about it all.

A least you are doing what you want to thats the mian thing.

Lucky for me my kids understand that i cant afford alot nor can they. so we just give something little each to open.

I will have my duck stew i make in the slow cooker. I will be happy with that.

Oh i know what you mean Hazel - i've spent too many christmas' feeling bl**dy miserable, unwanted and unloved - normally nursing a battered heart lol

I've decided rather than have folk spend their money on things i don't really need or want, and vice versa, not to do it - it's all such a big disappointment when you're an adult anyway lol

I'm taking my neice on a trip to Paris in the new year and my Mum to see Julie Andrews in May, so i feel my money is better spent on those things :O)

Treehunter

Treehunter Report 3 Dec 2009 12:28

same here. I will put small tree up for grand kids.

I like it by myself.

Daugthers going to Scotland with grand daugther, son will be at his dads with grand son.

Then on the 28th we will all go to daugthers for the day, I can cope with it afterwards but not on the 2 days. Just to many bad things that went on when i was growning up at that time.

Will be going over to my daugthers later as she want me to look after little one while she goes to bingo as its free every thrus until christmas.
