Hi all, sorry not to have been around to reply for a few days, but Ive had to change a lot of habits and time on PC being one of them.

I am proud to say I am five days cig free and am begining to wonder what all the fuss was about and how I never considered giving up before!!! But to be fair Im only day five and have xmas and new year to get through yet - so lets suck it and see.

I am happy being a non smoker - last night I went on a girls night hit a couple of pubs and a resturant with my smoking pals, and did ok - yes I did stand out in the cold and chat with smokers - but not for one second did I want one myself.

The first 24 hours were hell, I was in bed by 8.30pm your talking to someone that doesent normally go to bed until well after midnight - but after throwing all my toys out of the pram, it was the safest place to be if I a) wanted to remain married to a smoker b) wanted to keep my Crystal Glass collection c) wanted to keep the brand new all singing all dancing TV without shoving something through it!!!!

Day two was hard but not so bad, and I was glad not to stand out in the rain outside my office at half ten!

Day three the Nicoteen left my body, I could feel it - the release and the adrenaline leave my arms and since then its been a bit of a walk in the park, although admit to be someone without a normal sweet tooth but am quite heavy on the lollipops, specially when driving -coffee tastes awful after a lolli and I think I need to look for a sugar free brand as prob doing my teeth no good, Im on about 3 or 4 a day!

But apart from that - am so glad its the best thing I have ever done - but equally, I am determined not to be a pious ex smoker and for those of you that enjoy it - good for you, I did too for almost 25 years - only you will knbow when to quit and no one can make you if you dont want to - I dont regret being a smoker, I enjoyed it :) I just feel silly not knowing how easy it was to quit - and the fivers everyday stacking up on the shelf are really pretty :)
But ill still brave the cold if smokers are outside and will still keep the downstairs of my house open to smokers - but not upstairs.

Well done Maddiecow :)).
Winter is a good time to stop, when you see people outside getting cold and wet, for the sake of a wee puff.
I bet your food tastes different too.

Well done,
this is what I kept in mind when I stopped..........

In 20 minutes your blood pressure will drop back down to normal.

In 8 hours the carbon monoxide (a toxic gas) levels in your blood stream will drop by half, and oxygen levels will return to normal.

In 48 hours your chance of having a heart attack will have decreased. All nicotine will have left your body. Your sense of taste and smell will return to a normal level.

In 72 hours your bronchial tubes will relax, and your energy levels will increase.

In 2 weeks your circulation will increase, and it will continue to improve for the next 10 weeks.

In three to nine months coughs, wheezing and breathing problems will dissipate as your lung capacity improves by 10%.

In 1 year your risk of having a heart attack will have dropped by half.

In 5 years your risk of having a stroke returns to that of a non-smoker.

In 10 years your risk of lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker.

In 15 years your risk of heart attack will have returned to that of a non-smoker.

Been there !!

It will get better, just tell that ciggie you DO NOT NEED OR WANT IT.... !!

A doctor once told me that after 6 months your lungs start getting back to normal health .....just think of that !! ......New lungs ...LOL

Take each day as an achievement , and never give up because you can do it........a lot of us have, on here .

Have a lovely free ciggie Christmas Maddie.

Thanks all for your words of support :) Tomorrow will be a week since I quit, funny thing is I have to get the silly O clock train to London in the morning, same as I did last week, as I need to be at the RCJ.

However, last week I recall savering my smoke before I got on the train for the two hour Journey to London and at Paddington - going outside in the cold for a fag before getting the tube accross London and having a nother smoke as soon as I got off the tube ......

Tomorrow will be an almost identical day - but without the smokes lol!

Just a quick note to say I crashed my car this morning - I dont want to go into more detail other than ice and a wall - no other cars .................I went really well, well my car broke without much injury to me, but i bumed a fag in the end .......felt more sick than my shoulder and neck after and hope thats it....... Car now in garage and no claims to be made ill pay for it - hope same for fags - I know I dont need them - but a few puffs today was needed even though it made me more sick!!!!
