maggiewinchester Report 21 Dec 2009 17:25

I was amazed the buses were running this morning - unfortunately I missed it as I couldn't get my gate open!

We were told to leave work at 3:30 - which of course we did :o)
The snowflakes were so big they looked like like 'party size' snowballs.

On the way home, I had to get a few 'essentials' - plonk, 5 tins cat food and milk - not the lightest of things.
Went to get the bus - had a 20 minute wait (at least), so decided to walk.
Bit hairy around my way (outskirts of Winchester -by the M3) as we're not 'worthy' of gritting - pavements AND roads like ice rinks.

The walk home, that normally takes 25 minutes took 40. Not bad, as I could have stood at the bus stop forever before a bus came - none has passed since I got home, and they don't bother telling us whether it's running or not!

Still snowing here, Ann.
I just hope my daughter isn't working, she works in winchester and lives in the middle of nowhere, about 30 miles away.
If SIL is working, he has the option of staying at the hotel he's a chef in.

No snow here just a few miles from the Channel Tunnel.
Daughter couldn't believe the snow seen on the hills above the terminal, when there was a live news broadcast this morning on TV.
We seem to have our own little mini climate here,.......
We've had rain today though. I do hope that doesn't freeze. The roads will be like an ice rink.

Well, the roads in our area are gridlocked.

Hubby took almost an hour to get home where it normally would take him 10 mins top.

Ive just watched a small van try to get up our very small hill, to no avail, hes reversing as I speak !

Its horrendous out there !!

Winter Drawers Ever Near

Winter Drawers Ever Near Report 21 Dec 2009 21:31

Heavy snow shower this afternoon about 3pm and nothing since. The world and its mother must have set off for home early from work. The volume of traffic just caused everything to completely cease up.

Within half an hour the road outside our house was gridlocked and remained that way for the next five hours!

I had a doctors' appointment this evening and had to cancel it. From Ewell to Croydon and every road in between, everything ground to a halt.

My daughter dropped her car off at home and walked the two miles to our house to pick up the big mutt. I bet he had a lovely time walking along the snow covered pavements back home with his nose in the snow.

jane, it took my daughter an hour to get from brackmills, northants, to a village in wellingborough, she got stuck as her car wouldnt go up one of our many hills and had to get her dad to come and help, she couldnt even park her car on our drive as that is on a slope, flaming automatics, not fit for purpose are they, lol.

hope your daughter got home o.k. tho.

I lost my car this morning on the roundabout taking daughter to work.Daughter was screaming but i kept calm and in low gear and got us back together again. My future son in law left West London at 3pm and arrived home in Essex at 8.30pm.I had to go back to work (walking distance in my wellies)as one of our support workers could not get home.I had to take sleeping bag, slippers, pg's, toiletries and a new toothbrush. Also spaggetti bolo soup etc as she was not ready to stay overnight..
