Apologies if this has already been posted,

Today while visiting my brother, my sister in law informed me
her lap top had gone for repair,,,
last week she recieved a message informing her she had,
received a video message from a friend on her Face Book page
on clicking on it she said the computer started flashing up
a warning of a virus, as she tried to run her anti,
virus she could see her data dissapearing in front of her

She switched the lap top off, then restarted it but could get nothing so, it was sent to the repair shop,
they rung her while I was there to say the lap top is finnished,
its beyond repair.its only 4 months old. how wicked are some people ? I dont use face book myself but thought I would at least
warn you all.

My daughter had same thing Ray, she was lucky someone repaired hers for her, it was not a friend who sent it to her it was random, even when her computer was being fixed i got them from her, lucky for me Norton picked them up.

I have just found the said Video virus on friends face book pages and have warned them..

AnninGlos Report 22 Dec 2009 09:24

Thank you Susan. Is the answer just not to click on the e mail with the link when it comes? I think I have deleted a couple. Is there anyw ay to remove it from your own page to stop it replicating. shouldn't Facebook be dealing with this?

Another thing, this virus often sends the mail under a friends name/account, so you think its from a friend.

I had several in my FB pm box, and one on my wall but I knew even before any warning these friends wouldnt send me links to you tube with titles such as "ive got this video of you dancing naked" or "Look how big your bum looks in this video" etc.

I removed them straight away & warned my friends.

AnninGlos Report 22 Dec 2009 10:07

Yes, I have had both of those Elaine But is there a way to remove them from your actual Facebook so you can't send them on?

ஐ+*¨^¨*+e+*¨^¨*+ஐ Mildred Honkinbottom Report 22 Dec 2009 10:21

You only send them on if you click on the link :o))

If you remove the post, or mail , it goes.

It only means your friends account has the virus, not the people they send it to unless they open it, then it spreads further

Hope this helps x

Scareware scammers exploit Brittany Murphy's death
Alert Print Post comment Cyber footpads poison more interweb searches

Free whitepaper – The Register primer on web security threats (and their changing nature)

Actress Brittany Murphy's sudden death, just like Michael Jackson's untimely demise before her, has quickly been exploited by scareware scammers.

A spike in searches on Murphy's death has been taken as a theme for Black Hat SEO attacks, designed to push sites that have been hacked to redirect surfers to scareware portals into prominence in search engine results.

Windows users who click on links to poisoned search results get exposed to a fake anti-virus scan, designed to frighten users into buying rogue security software of little or no utility.

Net security firm F-Secure, which has a full write-up of the attack here, detects the strain of scareware involved in the attack as Fakevimes-T. More detail on how search results were poisoned can be found in a blog posting be WebSense here.

Murphy, who starred in movies including 8 Mile, Sin City and Spun died on Sunday, 20 December after collapsing at her LA home. She was only 32. The precise cause of death is yet to be determined but an autopsy is planned. ®
