Nice to see a reference too Tatting. I have tried this and made some motifs which I then sewed onto aT-shirt, but always have to find the training manual if I start anything else.

Well, Julia from soddin' Derbyshire, youv'e started summat now.

Went over to my newsagents to have another look at thew new crochet mag.

I thought "Well, only 99p,it is worth that for the hook alone" I have only just opened it, and seen the pattern for a patchwork quilt.

One of my passions,so now, thanks to you have subscribed for the whole lot.

I now need to live to 200 in order to finish all my paintings, ancestry, sewn and crocheted quilts, keep my garden tidy.write a book...................................

thanks a million.

Annina, good afternoon. managed to get out for an hour and went to Dunelm. They had not got what I was looking for, but the trip was not a total disaster. Got another hook, so now when I have printed a copy of my pattern off, I can put a bag of work into my 'Hospital bag'. Well, the hooks being small, as opposed to knitting needles, won't get tangled in me intravenous drips.
Bought another load of wool, and a lovely knitting book.
Have decided that my best bet for crochet patterns could be the charity shops, as has been kindly suggested on here. So will look them out when I go out and about.
I havn't seen the publication yet, but will have to look for it if it has patchwork beadspreads in. (As if I do not have a big enough collection that I have sewn).
I know what you mean about all the hobbies and interests. I do not paint, but love to cook, and make things for the freezer. And, in a few weeks we will be starting work on the allotment. The house gardens, greenhouse, window boxes and tubs, and hanging baskets are all my domain. But, I do like to sit down with abit of 'handwork' in the afternoons whilst looking in on Chat.
I do reserve a couple of hours for reading when I go to bed at 10.00 at night.
And here was I thinking that when I retired a few years ago, life would slow down. Good job our Dunelm does not sell dressmaking fabric, only furnishing
Once again Annina, many thanks for your imput
Lots of Love

Hazel, if you want to learn, forget knitting for a while, put it away and do something else, cross stitch or something.

Then when you pick up the wool for crochet you might have got the knitting habit out of your head enough to be able to adjust.

Julia, I'm taking on a patchwork crochet bedspread now, from one of the patterns on the site I recommended, *gulp*, as some of the colours left over from my mum's throw look superb together and will go perfectly in my bedroom. I've just worked out how many squares I will need, for a valanced bedspread....*gulp gulp*.....480!!! *gulp gulp gulp*

I may be some time.....

TeresaW, good luck, I know what you mean. By the way, which site did you get it from, so that I can have a look.

Julia, it's on the site I sent you in PM. It's the cornflower throw, but I'm doing it in browns and greens instead.

The throw I made Mum is the sunflower lap-warmer on the same site.

Hope you do get the chance to take a look Julia, there are some gorgeous patterns on there and they are free. Only email addy and password needed to register to download.

Rita, I have done that all my life, and I have a blanket made up of six-sided squares which are put together to make a flower shape. Cant use it now because of cats on the bed! but it wont get thrown away. I have door mats cross stitched with rewound wool, doubled, and a pram blanket which I made 50yrs ago out of a jumper and hat that I got too large for. Do you remeber those woolen hats, done with a tail which came over your shoulder?

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 3 Jan 2010 22:05

Oooo that brings back some memories. I remember holding various jumper parts while my gran unravelled them and skeined the wool to wash. She used to knit lots of stuff for the church 'sale of work', blankets, bed-jackets, cardigans (unless it was green, then she'd keep it), gloves, hats, socks, bedsock, you name it, she knitted it.

She had a big basket full of buttons, which my mum has now, though I managed to keep her second collection, in an old tin tea caddy. Even now, I take the buttons off any clothes I might be throwing away. My OH thinks I'm mad, but my conscience won't let me throw the buttons out.

Hi Ladies,done ane crocheting yet?

I have allready used up all the yarn from two editions of the new mag,I bought two while it is only 99p.

It is called "Crochet made easy for everyone" you can't miss it in the newsagents,as it is glued to a pink card about 18 by 18ins.

Jean, the pattern that you described is called Grandma's flower garden,I think we all did some of that in the sixties,in fact,it was that pattern that got me hooked on quilting.

I make lots for charities, and am proud of one that raised over £2000 for an animal rescue home.

Must sign off, have bought more yarn today in the £1. shop

I tried the website freecrochet.com, and it gave me trouble from the start. It directed me to a list of different sites to do with crochet, and I was unable to find anything to do with patterns. Not only that but it took over my computer and wouldnt close, eveything I clicked on came up with the same thing. In the end I had to shut the computer down until this morning.

Rita, I think you mean Snoods. Like a thick hairnet. You can crochet a useful carrier bag which folds up small and goes in your handbag.
