i was asking, am i being selfish wanting to hold on to my pride and joy, or sell it for family

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 3 Jan 2010 23:37

Depends really..........if it's a case of no food on the table then sacrifices have to be made.....but if you can get by comfortably enough without selling it then don't !!! I wouldn't if I loved it !!! xx

The sensible option. If you like the car & can afford it......Keep it

Or a mans option. If you like the car & can't afford it.......Keep it. lol

:o))

Keep it.

If your son/daughter want/need you to ferry their children around then use their car!

Can you not get a cheap little run around to do all the family stuff and leave the MG just for you?

xx

Stevie

Stevie Report 3 Jan 2010 23:46

Or ferry them one at a time in the MG. lol

:o))

Can't you squeeze one or two of the tinier grandchildren into the back?

CrunchyNuTTer

CrunchyNuTTer Report 3 Jan 2010 23:47

Mrs Grumpy,,, i would if they drove, but they dont!
Muffy,, its all about the tax and insurance for another car,,, thats my dilemma

CrunchyNuTTer

CrunchyNuTTer Report 3 Jan 2010 23:49

Steve, how many journies will i have to do in an mg to ferry three peeps and does the baby car seat go in a front seat? lol

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 3 Jan 2010 23:52

If they need you to ferry the children about could they not contribute to it?

I'd be very wary of selling a pride and joy car tbh. I have a 1959 Morris Minor which really I SHOULD sell......but can't bring myself to lol xx

OK - options:

1. Take them by bus - do you qualify for a bus pass? They can pay their own fare.

2. Ask son/daughter to stump up running costs of second car - tax, MOT, insurance etc. Do they contribute at all to your childminding fees?

3. Move to a far flung corner of the country so you don't have to ferry anyone anywhere and will therefore force your son/daughter to learn to drive so they can come and visit.

There are bound to be other options ...

LOL

I suppose you could attach a trailer with seats to the MG. lol
:o))

Yes running another car is more than just buying one.
If you purchase a small 2nd hand family car. ie a Fiesta 1.1 which will be in a low insurance group and in the lower road tax band, will reduce the running costs.

Blimey Muffy - your car is nearly as old as me and I'm falling apart. How on earth do you keep the thing on the road?

LOL

Jill

p.s. I bet the insurance is cheap though - we have a 1959 camper van and the insurance is peanuts and tax is zilch.
