I'm having someone to dinner in the near furture
who is a vegerarian .
i have found this reciepe for Green Garden Veg Pie
which consists of cheese, potatoes, broccoli peas chives and cauliflower with a sauce thats made from flour mustard a small knob of butter and milk but what i'd like to know is would you put anything else to go with it or would you serve it by its self .
i have never catered for a vegeratian before and would like to get it right ...lol so if anyone can help me i would be grateful

Hi Hazel
It would look strange on a plate on its own I think. Maybe do some more separate potatoes, mashed and put it on the table with a dish of carrots and maybe a dish of broccoli then they can help themselves to more veg if they want.

Would your son be able to tell you if there are any vegetables she doesn't like? and if she likes cooked cheese etc?

Beans?

Or - sounds a bit odd maybe - but how about a bit of pasta (those tube things) grated cheese and breadcrumbs on top and shoved under the grill to crisp up a bit.

I'd just check if she likes broccoli and cauliflower - it's not to everyone's taste although some people love it. :)

According to a veggie friend they have the problem a lot anyway because of their diet.

Chips! Who doesn't eat chips?

My friend was a vegetarian and a very poor cook. She existed almost entirely on cornflakes, supernoodles, and egg & chips.

Recipe sounds good to me, but do you know if she is vegan?

I can share your concern to 'get it right'
Son asked if he could bring a friend to a meal, but forgot to tell me she was vegetarian. Never mind, it was summer and we hastily managed a meal with what we had in the house.
When he asked if friends could call in for a meal on a later occasion, I decided to prepare a vegetarian meal, 'Just in case'.
...... He'd forgotten to tell me that one of the lads couldn't have any dairy products and I'd prepared a quiche.......

Just a thought as Maggie mentioned quorn below, not everyone can eat it ( it carries warnings in the US ) , so go for one of the soya mince's unless you're sure...
'Real Eat' veggie mince is very good and non veggies will eat it too lol. I do a shepherds pie with it and it is lovely and warming on a cold day ( I am not a great cook but can't go wrong with that lol).

Worth asking if the person is a vegetarian or a demi-veg as might make a difference to what you cook

I would make sure of what she won't eat, some veggies won't eat cheese or eggs

Linda McCartney meals are a good option, why don't you cook it for everyone, then you only have one meal.

I give my gd kids Linda sausages and they can't tell the differance, especially in toad in the hole.
