lol Janey, mentioning tarot, I was going to add on another thread that a friend came to visit me once and we decided to both go and have our tarot ( and runes lol) read by a local lady . So she goes in first while I wait in the kitchen...fine (except for the ghostly presence in the corner) ...she comes out clutching her cassette tape and I go in... not impressed at all, some very obvious generalisations and prompting for answers which , being a believer but also a dyed in the wool cynic ( !) I answered with non commital grunts mostly :)

Friend thinks it's a fabulous reading for her, gushes all the way home..until we listen to each others tapes, the 'reading ' is identical, except that whereas I give nothing away, she gives the reader chapter and verse of her life and makes it easy to come up with what she 'wants to hear '.

I have had two other tarot readings, one by a white witch, and one by a 'black' warlock (?) both very accurate.

How charming of you to avoid mentioning which parts of it are "me", Rose. ;)

I meant to mention that I pegged you with pinpoint accuracy back then, too, oh Archer!

And I do read a mean Tarot ...

lol Janey the only bit of that , which is like me is this

"You are optimistic and enthusiastic. You have to be-- you have a reckless tendency to rely on luck since you have no talent. " lol

And as we all know, in that long-gone thread o' mine, I pegged Uggers for an Aquarian straight off. ;)

And no one could doubt that I'm a Virgo!

One must look up one's own. I'm not quoting them again here, even with **s!

Personally,Iv'e never made my mind up about the validity of astrology.

There must be lots of other factors that shape our personalities.

Upbringing,diet,health,education ect.

But,at worst,it can be good fun; who amongst us, dosn't take a crafty look at the dailies and scoff.

I do have a friend who makes a tidy living out of astrological forecasts for individuals, taking birth time and place into consideration, he has also had published two books on the subject.

I never poo poo anything that has not been either proved or disproved ,lots of people around the world, from different cultures have a similar thing, the Chinese eg, so who am I to scoff.

Uggers

Uggers Report 26 Jan 2010 21:56

Lynda, do you *ever* say the word tosh in real life??

Uggers

Uggers Report 26 Jan 2010 21:53

I don't think you can sum up really because the idea is that you are the person you are because of where the planets were when you were born, so the whole of the horoscope not just what sun sign you were born under. Each planet represents different things in your horoscope. The basic stuff most of us look at is simplified and obviously not very accurate, which is why a lot of people say they and their other half aren't supposed to get on. An astrologist would look at full charts, not just say oh a Leo and a Scorpio won't work cos most signs will work together but in different ways.

Having said that, I think I'm a fairly typical Aquarian although I have a fair whack of Aries in my chart which shows :))

Blither off, Lynda ;))

AnninGlos Report 26 Jan 2010 21:47

I don't know a lot about it but I do have a friend who studies astrology and, from what I can make out, there is a lot more to astrology than just the star signs you see in the papers, magazines etc. The way it is studied makes it appear more of a science. But, as I said I haven't a clue except to know I am a Leo and OH is cancer on the cusp of Leo. and we get on fine.

Rambling Report 26 Jan 2010 21:45

I think there is absolutely no argument to be made in favour of the daily horoscopes, but I do think there might be a similarity of personality traits for those born in each sign.

But there again, you can argue against that in that I am nothing like my SIL who was born two days ( and several years) apart...must be down to my 'Libra rising' lol .

Though I suppose you could say we are alike in that we are both 'always right' ... hmmmmm

Annina

Annina Report 26 Jan 2010 21:32

Linda,If, as is your right, you think astrology is "a load of tosh" could you elucidate so that we can have a decent, intellegent debate.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 26 Jan 2010 19:21

How would *I* sum up people according to their star signs?

I wouldn't! Because the one time I tried it, my thread got locked (not deleted, locked - now there's an accomplishment) and I got two concurrent banishments of 3 and 4 days (also, I think, an accomplishment). ;)

Well I'm a Virgo, and supposed to be very finicky...spotlessly tidy and and a hypochondriac.. Yeah right. My place might look tidy, but don't open a cupboard cos everything will fall out....as for hypochondriac, I've probably been to the doctors 10 times in the last 15 years, and most of that was because of arthritis and the post-op checkups for the hip replacement.

I'm living with a fiery, impatient, gobby, 'want-it-all-done-yesterday' aries, apparently opposites and not in the least bit compatible. We get along fine, even if there are days when I hate the sight of him lol

My ex is a gemini, not split personality, but two-faced, with a dark side and a lighter side to his character. Gemini is apparently compatible with virgo....nope, we're divorced.

Annina

Annina Report 26 Jan 2010 18:52

Well, I get it from both sides, gobby northener,AND Sagitarious.

Gemini,,hmmmmmmmmm, is that the twins,as in split personality??
