I ask because I saw this - the names are real, but 'some' (RR'r) may be offended, by a couple:

:-D :-D :-D

I have a Fanny who married a Hoare.
They had a daughter called Winifred Ann.
On the census she is 'Winifred A Hoare' :-D

Edit ....but I don't think that's the worst one on my tree....

Awkward name to be sure.
I worked with a bloke named John Thomas - also awkward.
Also, with the surname Kerr, why would you name your son Wayne?
Not in my tree - but real names :-S

Going a bit off topic, as not a real name, but I did laugh at this 'South African' name:

Maggie

I thought I recognised the names, well who could forget a Fanny Hoare :-D

So what are you doing with my London Hoares in your tree? :-0

Winifred Ann is my first cousin 3 times removed.

Island

Island Report 29 May 2019 16:34

:-D :-D @maggie
I just can't get my head round why women give up their surname for the blokes in this day and age anyway :-S especially when his is so ridiculous. Come on, why would any young woman trade in Long for Wi-Wi?????

Not in my tree but, not sure how to phrase this.... ! saw? spotted? happened across? - Fanny Seal! :-0

maggiewinchester Report 29 May 2019 18:55

Kucinta - that is hilarious! :-D :-D

Chris, My Hoares were in Southampton! :-D

Maybe it was a 'thing' for Hoares to give their daughter's a middle name begining with 'A'.

..a bit like those in the 19th century, with the surname 'Gay' naming their sons 'Brighton' :-D :-D :-D

Island, I still use my married name.
Mainly because, although my maiden name was unusual - it was my dad's stepfather's name - the man who 'adopted' him at 16 - so hardly a 'father figure', and I don't want to go back to that.
I've been scouring my female Cornish side, thinking I could change my surname to a Cornish one.
Carminow(e) is now defunct as a surname, there are Polkinghorne's, Jory's, Killigrew's.- even a Truran,
Then I found Alice Trenowyth Tynton.
Her parents were Stephen Tynton and Elizabeth Bloyou.
Have to admit to sniggering at the 'Bloyou' :-D :-D

Then I found Elizabeth Bloyou's parents.
Alan Bloyou, who married ............
Johanna Nanscoyk!!!! :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Two unusual and somewhat awkward names :-S :-S :-D :-D :-D

SheilaSomerset Report 29 May 2019 19:13

I kept my maiden name - I'm the last of the line! Plus my OH has a 'boring' name :-D

Nothing very weird in my tree but Drusilla Faircloth sounds nicely exotic.

One of my g-grandmothers was Fanny Case.
