Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 13 Aug 2019 08:41

OMG what a luvvie she was

Very irritating.i mean why would you pretend to cry over what happened to an ancestor.it was what it was and can’t be changed
Yes you can think how sad or how awful but then move on .

She was soo acting a part :-(

What did she expect everything to be sunshine and happy
ever after?

Real life surely does not affect her in her world.
Such a drama queen.

Barbra Report 13 Aug 2019 14:01

Interesting in parts how many Wows did she say though ;-)

Better than the previous 2 - I am not sure how much was real and how much acting.

For goodness sake if part of your job was punishing people - then you would not have a choice.- well you could refuse but you would be court marshalled probably.

Where is all the common sense - no-one seems to live in the real world or an I just too old for all this. Seriously i am not that much older than Kate and I learnt all this sort of thing at school.

I know times have changed & we are very much a nanny society now- but for goodness sake it happened then - you cant think of it in like that.

I wanted to find out more about the Swedish family and a bit more of the family before they worked at the stables.

Hopefully next week will be more interesting for me and cover more family lines.

I have just watched Kate Winslet's WDYTYA and I enjoyed it. She was not overly luvvy in my opinion.

I didn't think she overacted, perhaps just enough reaction to hold viewers' interest. I liked the fact that she held her composure when she was moved to (almost) tears; there was no spectacular outburst that warranted a box of tissues.

She was definitely not enamoured with corporal punishment though, either received or dished out by her ancestors - nor would I be!

Who's next?

'Emma' Report 14 Aug 2019 18:17

Katherine Ryan, comedian.

I quite enjoyed it, she was real and not a lovey like Kate Winslet.

I have to agree with supercrutch, it was awful. I managed to stay with it but I didn't enjoy it, for me she was was boring!! trying to be funny but not succeeding!
Never heard of her before tonights programme.

When she told us that her dying Grandmother had telephoned her to ask her to say something to her that her parents used to say Katherine said she didn't say it!! & yet she reckons she was VERY close to her Grandmother!
I felt rather emotional about that, why wouldn't one do that??.

Joan.

'Emma' Report 20 Aug 2019 13:02

Like Sue and Joan didn't enjoy it, was hoping she would shut up
so the people who knew what they were talking about could get
the information over to her.

Next week Paul Merton.

JoyLouise Report 20 Aug 2019 18:34

I didn't mind it at all even though I'd never heard of her before.

I loved the remark, 'I don't know what I look like now naturally any more' when she was asked whether she thought she resembled her male ancestor. Honest, I thought.

I also very much enjoyed the interaction between her and the museum guy from Poole. What a nice man he seemed to be.

Next week, Paul Merton. I have heard of him but can't say I've ever watched him for more than ten minutes; he doesn't hold my attention much.

Tabitha Report 21 Aug 2019 13:29

It was better than some - not that interesting as dewelt on one thing far too long.
Interesting seeing the portraits and Newfoundland.

Loved the Corfe Castle bit and enjoyed the interrelation with her and the museum man.

I loved the little church and the University. Great she found the book of poems and letters but that could have been a 2 min thing a third of the programme.

Felt sorry for her granny - if that's how you treat someone you loved a lot.

Wouldn't bother to watch it again.

Von

Von Report 21 Aug 2019 16:43

I've just watched it and thoroughly enjoyed the programme :-D

I recently visited Toronto so landmarks were familiar.By chance we were diverted to Halifax' Nova Scotia so another serendipity interest;-) ;-)
So great that she could go so far back and even have the poems and letters that they wrote.

I like her humour and watched her on a few programmes.

Looking forward to Paul Merton as I like his humour as well ;-)
