No it doesn't need to be spicy at all.

I have tried putting other things in the pie and none of them improved it.

Caroline Report 15 Sep 2019 16:12

Not if you shove a load of onions in with it :-D :-D

I will defo try the pie next time I have some bacon in the house, which isn't often these days.

I don't think I am allergic, I just agree with Tec that the heat overwhelms other flavours and detracts from them. I find the sensation of heat very uncomfortable too.

Egg and bacon pie has quite a subtle combination of flavours.

Kindred spirits Allan :-D

Some are allergic to Chillies I know, but to really burn it takes a lot.....I still like the idea of the pie as described

Why is the ingredient called chilli when it is so hot?

I must confess that I do like spicy foods, the hotter the better. :-D :-D

Yuk. Chilli. In my case, just 1 flake as an ingredient burns my mouth & makes my lips go numb. Cayenne pepper & coriander have the same effect. They don’t introduce flavour, they swamp it with fire....in my opinion.

:-D :-D Nope you can't beat a little bit of spice some days

I agree with Sharron re. chilli!

....apart from my daughters chilli con carne - which is delicious (as is her lasagne).
No idea where she got her talent from - not me. I cooked 'proper' meals - but they were basic - meat & 2 (or 3) veg.

Could have been her grandad though on her dads side, who she never met.
He was personal chef to King George VI - but still 'basic' fare - roast lamb and rice pudding were, apparently, his favourite!

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One chilli flake would be far, far too many!!!!

Chilli flakes have no place in a civilized society!!!!!

That pie sounds good, mind you a few chilli flakes and it would be really good....IMHO.

I have tried putting other things in the pie and it is just not the same at all and how much bacon or vege bacon you use depends on how much you have available. I think it was invented to eke out meagre rations and a slice of pie is far more satisfying than an egg and half a rasher.

Never would I ever make it into a quiche or even eat quiche if there was any other choice in the world. Quiche is an abomination! Bleh!

I know a joke about old age creeping on....and it has nothing to do with egg and bacon pie

Now you mention it JoyLouise, I think I remember my sons making dampers when they were away with the scouts. Funny how things slip your mind till someone mentions them. Old age creeping on!!

Flour and water without the sugar, Kathleen, sounds like Damper - made by old Aussie bushmen over their open-air fires. If they had it, a touch of salt was sometimes added.

Egg and bacon pie sounds just the sort of thing younger daughter would like and make.
Like Maggie I've never eaten it or encountered one.
