Will arrange to have mine done at GP surgery in about a month. Can then book my annual check up and blood test.
That should be me sorted for a twelve month (fingers crossed).

Luckily I am not afraid of needles. Just can't see well enough to thread any.

Don't have one - not old enough :-)

Island Report 30 Sep 2019 16:29

You're lucky you don't fit with other 'at risk' criteria Sheila :-) it's not just an age thing.

I had a call from the surgery around 10 this morning, would I like it and when would I like to go in? I'll be there in an hour. Brilliant service. Autoimmune.

Good work by your surgery Island. Ours was only for over 65s there will be another clinic soon for others.

Island

Island Report 30 Sep 2019 16:48

I was impressed Ann :-D I've never had a reaction, except for achey arm sometimes but I skipped it last year as I was in the middle of other medical stuff and knowing my luck I would develop a streaming cold and have to cancel an important appointment.

I was also advised to have the (one off) pneumonia jab due to being autoimmune.Had that one a few years ago.

SylviaInCanada Report 30 Sep 2019 23:09

Gosh, you guys have it early!!!

We don't start getting ours until early November ............. but Australia had a very bad season this winter with the H3N2 virus, so Canada is looking very closely at what went on down there.

We can get it done at our doctor's office, or go to the local pharmacy (with or without an appointment) and one of the pharmacists will do it. The coverage of people recommended to have the vaccine is pretty high here ............ including anyone working or living with children, seniors, or autoimmune people in any way from birth to death; anyone in health or emergency services; seniors over 65, etc.

All of that is free. Anyone not covered by one of the categories can pay to have the vaccine.

There were forecast to be shortages and I guess surgeries have got ahead of the game this year.

Well that's OH and myself sorted for another year.

Last year it was so crowded, this time it was over
65s only today, much quicker :-)

Daughter and rest of family not received their letter yet.

SylviaInCanada Report 12 Oct 2019 17:35

We've got an appointment for November 8, shots will be available in early November. I only made the appointment now because the doctor I'm currently seeing wants to see me in "early November for something else. Receptionist said he will only be in alternate Fridays next month, so book November 8 "now" or you won't get an appointment if you wait! So I'll be having the flu shot along with a couple of other things!

He's doing some hospital and Emergency Room work next month.

Apparently Canada is also going to have a "stronger" version of the vaccine for use with seniors and others at very serious risk if they catch flu, but the batch won't be ready until late November.

Island

Island Report 12 Oct 2019 19:38

I had mine last month, as per in my right shoulder as I sleep on my left.
Turned over in the night and YIKES!!!
Could I settle back on my left side? Could I 'eck :-0 :-(

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 12 Oct 2019 22:27

Island ............ the question for us is usually "which hand do you use for writing"?

They then give the shot in the other upper arm.

The year I turned 65, I had to have the one-time pneumonia shot as well as the flu shot.

That was one in each upper arm.

MotownGal

MotownGal Report 13 Oct 2019 11:26

I had a 'dead arm' for 2 days. :-D

I too had the pneumonia jab about 10 years ago, again as Sylvia said, one in each arm. I couldn't lift either arm, and had to get the maid to do all the cooking. :-D ;-)

Island

Island Report 13 Oct 2019 11:41

I only fell for "which hand do you use for writing"? once. :-D I always offer my right arm.
I have my flu jab at the local pharmacy but pneumonia has to be at the surgery thank goodness as I can't sleep on my back LOL
