Barnard Castle Joy? Is that where the Bunnie Fields are? Beloved used to visit a castle somewhere in that region as a child.

You've got me beat, as they say, Maddie. Not heard of the bunnie fields but maybe I have lived a cloistered existence. :-S

Barnard Castle not only has castle ruins, it has Bowes Museum and a well-known public school (private school to Antipodeans who may be reading).

Raby Castle has deer and is still privately-owned by Lord Barnard.

Brancepeth Castle is much smaller and is still owned by the descendants of its last purchaser, fairly recent in the history of castles. I knew the lady who passed it on to her descendants. I also have several ancestors buried in the churchyard next to it and still visit occasionally.

Durham Castle - within walking distance but any bunnies would be along the riverbanks, I should think.

I think perhaps you may mean Raby Castle, Maddie, but if you remember, I'd appreciate knowing more about the bunnies.

(Edit: there may be bunnies along the ramparts of Barnard Castle itself.)

But there are plenty of old ruins around here so they could be anywhere.

My sweets have all gone and none will arrive until tomorrow. I have been snaffling from OH's stash. :-D
