Hi ZZzzz,
Don't forget, others' need to have had their DNA tested for you to get a match!

ZZZzz

How many matching cams do you have with him. This will give you a clue as to how close the relationship is.

Edit: I know you were hoping to find 2nd cousins to prove or disprove the parentage. I have just checked my own 2nd cousins and they range from 221 cms to 109cms.
Hope this helps.

Have you looked at your ethnicity estimate, and was it what you expected?

Some people put a good tree on, but others just don't bother.

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 19 Jul 2020 22:37

Yes it is only 3 names, I will message him and take it from there, it isn’t as straight forward as I thought it it would be.

grannyfranny Report 19 Jul 2020 22:25

D'you mean 3 names in his tree?

Most of the dna matches you get will be impossible to identify, but they must be matches with some person in both your ancestries.

Make sure you put some names of your own on, then you'll be more able to calculate the match.

New matches appear all the time, as new folk get tested.

Apparently I have a DNA match on my heritage but he only has 3 names and I I don’t have them, is that right, I don’t know what to to do now.

Your results must be due soon.
Are you waiting for notification - sometimes that is delayed but the results are available. Worth having a look if you haven't already done so.

The trouble I’m having is my mother is illegitimate and her mother went to Australia so no one knows of either of them, indeed mums half brother didn’t know about her till I told him when he was 68 ish, his mother had a photo with my mum in it but she would change the subject when anyone asked who she is.

If You and your brother had the same parents then it wouldn't necessarily show up. Having said that, my brother and I don't always have the same matches. There are cousins that I have a much stronger match to than him.
If your mother had presumed half siblings then it is that line you need to persuade to take a test.
With my OH, where we had this problem, there were several people at 2nd cousin level that we didn't know of . So I think that is the level you would find some totally unknowns. There are a lot of shared matches with them but no shared matches with anyone else that we knew of. On another site my brother in law had a match with a half first cousin once removed, which proved my suppositions to be correct.
Hopefully you will find some matches that you are aware of and that will help.
Can't wait to hear the outcome. Good luck

I’m thinking my Grandmother has lied about who she had an affair with and my mum being the result, soooo if my brother agrees to having the test down is it possible that he can match with possible name that doesn’t match with me.

Should have results 8th to 15th July, really excited now.

Good luck ZZzzz

My Heritage DNA tests are done at the FTDNA labs so eventually it might be worth transfering the results to the FTDNA site as well to get as many matches as possible!!

Well I’ve just posted my DNA with track reference number, so now I just have to wait.

I know not everyone agrees, but I think MH is better for European matches than Ancestry.

ZZzzz Report 4 Jun 2020 11:30

I felt like I couldn’t be bothered, still a bit fed up, but I’ve been on myheritage site for a few years so I’ve done a DNA test with them too, see what wrong information I get from them. :-\

SylviaInCanada Report 4 Jun 2020 00:42

Some of the trees on ancestry have me born of a "relationship" between my mother and my 10 year old brother :-0 :-( ................ father's name disappeared due to one cousin treemaker who didn't know his own family. The information was then copied.

I really can't be bothered any more.

If no-one can spot the age difference from the birth years given, and still refuse to make corrections, then b****r them!
