Just had a letter from Newcastle re state pension - like do I want it in October as I will be 60. It is one thing knowing that you will soon be 60 but seeing it in black and white - oh dear - I will be an oap!!!! Love Mary xx

Dont know if you get them in Spain Hal. But there is a Pensionetas (spelling) just down the road where the oldies go perhaps I can go there !!!!!!!!!!! Think kindergarten would be better. Love Mary xx

One good thing is that I will be able to get cheaper travel so might be able to get to more meets, do they do pensioner hostels same as youth hostels lol?

Here in New Zealand the Govt raised the age for getting superannuation to 65. We must be a much younger bunch than you poms. Some people think it should be raised to 70. But think of all the young people who will not be able to get a job because all the oldies are still working. We allegedly get 65% of the average wage, but that is a couple getting 65% of the average wage for one person, and then it is taxed, so each one of a couple gets 32.5% of the average wage and pays tax on it. A single oldie gets something over 65% I think. We can get a reduction on bus and train fares, at least in the Auckland area, and some other outfits have discounts for oldies. But it pays to have some savings. We often have to draw on them to pay insurance, rates and other big bills.
