I think it was a good programme despite some dire acts lol and I hope all the young people who were on, continue to do well. They are great role models and just go to prove that hoodies can be worn by goodies as well as baddies! Nice to see youngsters making an effort to improve their lives. I would imagine the lads on tonight would make a good act between artistes at shows etc and will get some work, as will the others shown earlier in the show. The young dancers will all continue to dance and enjoy themselves and will make their own futures as they grow. Some of the people were living in cloud cuckoo land thinking they were entertaining, good for a laugh, but not much else lol Credit to them for having a go tho. More than I would do. Liz |

This information was on the programme's site. Paul first sang opera at the age of 28 for a karaoke competition– he dressed up as Pavarotti. He went on to perform in Barrymore’s ‘My Kind Of Music’ (1999). The money he won from the show (£8000) along with his savings was spent on attending various training courses in Italy. From his Italian opera class he was selected to sing in master class’ for Pavarotti and Katia Ricciarelli – who he says were very impressed. Paul reckons he’s spent £20,000 in total to get to where he is today. Paul has performed in 4 semi professional operas in the UK and some concerts. His proudest performance was with the philimonic orchestra in a concert in front of 15, 000 people After having appendicitis doctors discovered a benign tumour that was removed. 2 weeks after the operation he was back on stage. A motorbike accident in 2003 which he broke his collar bone kept him away from performing and he got left out of the opera circles. Since his illness he has struggled with money and has never reached his potential in Opera and this is why he has chosen to enter Britain’s got talent. Married for 4 years to his wife Julie (26) whom he met on a internet chat room. They have been together for 6 years in total Paul has worked at the Carephone warehouse for 2 years, for 1 year as manager – before that he worked the night shift at Tesco’s shelf stacking / internet personal shopping. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ He needed this break and good for him as far as I am concerned. The other finalists will get their chances from their appearances on the programme, due to their own talent. Plenty of time for Connie and Bessie to go further as they grow and develop and I am sure the others will get booked for various things too. Liz |

I agree he had a good voice BUT he had had training with Pavaroti and others it seems. He has also sung at concerts with him and other operatics. This is what I read yesterday, so in theory he shouldnt have won. shirleybird |

I hadn't seen it before tonight and thought they were all good - although I wasn't so impressed with the dancers - but I was really glad that Paul won. I didn't vote but I was torn between Paul and the Monkey Guy - he was very funny and would have been good in the Royal Variety Performance. Kaye x |

I think every act was talented so any winner would have been good. I will add that I am not sure it was a foregone conclusion especially as Connie was the favorite to win! xx |

Yep, I liked the dancers too, and the 12-y-o, but Paul is not crap! How can he be, with a voice like that? (That's a rhetorical question by the way, Sarah). :-) *tuts* |

Paul winning was a fair result, Connie was getting the aw vote, they were both fantastic in their own catorgories, its unfair to put an adult up against a child. They should do a separate show for adults and children and offer 2 slots at the variety show, that would be fair Jan |

I have a feeling that some of the other acts will be picked up by talent scouts in due course. Again, Paul winning it is well-deserved. :-) |

Sarah - I presume that you are a trained Opera singer and therefore have the background to make such a comment on the matter! |

Sarah, that's a bit harsh. I'm sure you don't mean it. Well done Paul. I'm not an opera fan, but blimey - what a fantastic voice. Really pleased for him. :-) |
