Hi everyone I am planning my first visit to london in July for a few days. Can anyone recommend an hotel somewhere near the London Eye. Also would I be anywhere near the National Archives so I could do a bit of researching. I would appreciate any advice. Jane

Hi Jane, sorry I cant advise on hotels, but the London Eye is next to Waterloo station and the family history centre is in Islington. a tube ride away. Hotels in and around the Eye will be very expensive, Dave

The National Archive is at Kew, on the green tube line. Janice

hi jane i went to london last year it was my first visit too, i stayed at the travel lodge, Drury lane. it cost about £90 per night for a family room that sleeps up to 4, the rooms are only basic but very clean. and its only a short walk away from covent garden tube station and not far from euston station, and the british musem. also if you walk up drury lane you can get on the hop on hop off tour buses which stop at all the major attractions including the london eye. hope this helps beryl

I have a travel lodge by me in Surrey, i know if you book a month in advance its 15 pound per room per night, 2 weeks before travel is 26 pound or after that 56 pound. I am only 20 min away from london by train.

Irish girl not all lodges offer the £15 rate you're best off looking at the trvale lodge website and seeing if they have any offers for the lodge you want. Croydon often has deals, and that not far from London either. You can get trains direct to Farringdon for FRC and LMA

Hi, Just a thought that if you are on a tight budget try the Youth Hostel Association, they have several places in London. Have not been to any of them, but have had good experience elsewhere and they do family rooms, Google it and you can see the availability/cost etc. Hope you enjoy yourself, Rose x

My brother took his family (he's got four children) to London for the weekend a few weeks ago. They stayed in the London County Hall Premier Travel Inn which is right next to the London Eye. I think it's about £90 per room per night but, as is usual with Travel Inns, breakfast is extra. He said it was a great location if you have children.
