Well done Jan, the subject is something that more people should be made aware of. There is far too much of this type of thing happening in todays world and a very dangerous place can be the internet. We had a discussion about this same subject some while ago on another site. At that time, my daughter who is a police officer placed some useful information on which may be of help to anyone who may be worried about children and the internet. I have copied this over. Hi, I thought I would provide some information for parents whose children are being targetted by undesirable people online Please see the following website, whereby you can report online abuse which WILL be investigated by the Police. http://www.ceop.gov.uk/ CEOP Stands for Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP I hope this is of use to someone! Amazing what you learn in my job!! Best Wishes Colin

Thanks Marion :) Scooby's mum, many people were fooled (some weren't), I'm not sure I wouldn't have been fooled if someone else had put it up! There are a few people who added to this thread who have the skills to go into their computer's history (Well done Our Em....well impressed) and find out who their children are talking to, unfortunately, I'm a bit thick with computers, so I'm not one of them, and this was the only thing I could come up with. :) Deanna, My daughter was with me as the thread unfolded, she was in fits of laughter..........(especially when I explained who a lot of these wonderful women were)......but she got the very serious message that went with it.......Thank God, and she's been telling all her friends at school about it.........so hopefully there are a couple who will remember the message..:) Jan xx

Well done Jan, I quite got taken in myself, thought it too good to be true, but you never know who is reading the threads wanting to join but sitting on the side lines as they are too shy or nervous (as I remember I was) to take the plunge. So it could have been a shy Fireman (not many of those I know) but at least it showed he would have been VERY welcome, but also how easy it is to pretend to be someone you're not!! Have just had this discussion with my Son, as we are going to buy him his own computer this week and I have insisted he sits side by side with me where the comp desks are, just so I can keep an eye on things and know he is using the net safely. As you say, it is so easy to say anything on here and children can be too trusting!! That said, it was a great afternoon and I just fell about laughing when it was revealed to me you were the culprit, you ikkle tinker!!! lol Nanna-Moo ;-))

It certainly demonstrated how easy it can be to take people in. Some seemed convinced Dave was real. I hope it also illustrates why some members are sometimes wary of newcomers, I have been criticised for this in the past but this shows why I am occasionally wary. Gwynne
