My dad would have been 97 on St Georges Day, sadly he died in 1983. He was really proud to share his birthday with St George. Just after he died we went to Chester for a holiday and I saw a lovely ornament of George & the dragon that I just had to buy and it reminds me of dad more than anything I have of his.

At the day centre where I work we will be celebrating St George's Day by having a lunch where we all take in something to share. We will have flags, red and white ballons and banners. I asked whether I could wear my England Football shirt and the manager said yes, however one person said St Georges' Day should not be all about football and hooliganism. I vented by saying, I have a number of England Shirts and I am not a football hooligan!!!. I support my Country and its achievements. Whats more I agree with the comment that people are always up for celebrating St Patrick's Day. Come on England!!!!! Fi

I will be putting up my flags today in readiness... have been searching madly thought for my car flags... I don't know what I did with them since the World Cup. (Sadly I lost my Mum on the day England played Portugal last year and I'm afraid the flags came down rather suddenly - it's a bit of a blur) Oh, I know, maybe they are in the boot of the car.... will check Go St George !!! Go England !!! Gaynor :-)))

St George is nothing if not multi-cultural. He is patron saint of (deep breath): Aragon, Catalonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, Germany, and Greece. As well as: Soldiers, Archers, Cavalry and Chivalry, Farmers and Field workers, Riders and Saddlers. What a guy!!

23rd April. Hi everyone, I read your threads everyday and often have a good laff, but very seldom add to any of them, but as you are talking about my birthday I'll add one. Yes, Maid Marion, Shakespeare was born and died on the 23rd , but Reg, I think the Queen's real birthday is 21st and she has another official one later on sometime.-- It's also Shirley Temples' birthday, anyone remember her? Good Ship Lollipop and all that. She was really famous when I was little. I always wanted ringlets like hers. Used to go to school in our brownie or guide or scout uniforms, wore them very proudly too. Jean. P.S. Happy Birthday to everyone else sharing my big day, hope you've got the day off work!
