Hi everyone, does anyone remember my thread in November last year about the serious car accident that my son’s ex was in with her 2 friends? I must have deleted the thread I was using. This is the very latest I have on what is happening, as you may remember the accident was with three girls, all aged 18 driving late at night, the car skidded off the road hit a tree killing one girl leaving the other two with serious injuries, the girl who died left behind a little girl of 2 years old. The driver was my son’s ex, she sustained serious concussion and memory loss, the other girl was also a front seat passenger sustained what we heard at the time as a broken back and arm and very serious head injuries, she was taken to a London’s Tooting Hospital because she was so serious. Yesterday that same girl, Lucy, came to my home, she is a friend of both of my sons, she sat with me and talked about the accident, she knew I had photos of the car on my pc and asked to see them, I asked her if she was sure and she said yes, she explained what she remembered happening during the evening, the girls were on there way to the all night garage for petrol when the accident happened, Dayna the girl that was killed was thrown backwards into the booted area, the car being a hatchback, as yet we are still not 100% sure what actually killed her. Lucy that was taken to Tooting Hospital, she actually sustained a broken neck which has since been operated on and very serious head injuries, she had a massive blow to the head from hitting her head on the doorpost, she is still in a neck/chest collar and will be until sometime in April, she has a piece of bone in her neck that has moved out of place so is still unsure if it needs putting back or whether it will be left as it is or removed, she seems very well and cheerful, although her voice has changed, she wasn’t aware of anything after the accident for many weeks even though she was told of Dayna’s death she doesn’t remember, she is just so happy to be here and truly believes someone was watching over her that night, she said that when they left the club they were all at, Dayna was the only one to kiss a friend goodbye and she was the one killed, Lucy just finds that odd, Lucy is doing ok, she said she will be down again very soon and is looking so forward to having the collar off, she is only allowed to remove it to shower, she has to wear it 24/7 and has done so since leaving hospital. Sas my son’s ex, the driver of the car has to appear at the police station on March the 5th to see if any charges will be made against her, I truly hope she doesn’t get charged for Dayna’s death, the fact that Dayna’s little girl has been left motherless and knowing she was the driver of the car that killed her best friend from childhood is punishment enough, others may differ from my thoughts. Sas had just one drink which is very unlike her, she passed a blood test and was not over the limit by any means. So that is my update, I will keep you all informed of what happens to sas in March and how Lucy is going on. I’m sorry I have no more news of Dayna’s daughter and how she is coping, although the last I did hear, she was doing well with her dad looking after her and she has Dayna’s parents close by. Sorry this is so long but I didn’t want to leave anything out. Gillie XX |

yes I do remember your thread about the accident. It seems a shame that when there is an accident they try to blame one particular person. Okay so maybe it is the driver who is in charge of the car but it was just an 'accident' not done on purpose. |

Thank you Catherine, I think too it was only an accident and not through stupid behaviour. I have seen Lucy again today, she told me about her neck operation, she has 6 screws hold her neck in place. Gillie XX |

Thank you Carol, I so hope all goes well for Sas, she has had punishment enough, she hasn't driven a car since the accident, I don't know if she will again. Catherine thank you for saying such lovely things about me, I do my very best with my lads and there friends who know us ( me and Andy) very well, I've known most of them and there parents since the day they were born and they become part of an extended family to us, if any of them are in any trouble or a parent isn't around to help them, they know they have us here to rely on. Thank you Nanna Moo, I too hope they can start to rebuild lives and make new friends as well as staying with the ones they have. Take Care everyone. Gillie XX |

Todays Update. It's not good news, Sas the driver of the car that killed her best friend and seriously injured her other friend who sustained a broken neck and other injuries, she appeared at the Police Station as requested by them on the 5th March to be told to return on the 25th, she did this and will now have to appear in court, The charge may be dangerous driving or death by dangerous driving, I don't know if ahe will be charged with anything else apart from the fact she appears to have been speeding!, me and Andy drove that route yesterday and the speed limit is 40 mph, Sas was reputed to have been driving at 60mph! If that is the truth I am shocked, she was never a speed driver while she was going out with my son, I am still in shock. The outcome is she may appear in court on a charge of ''dangerous driving'', ''death by dangerous driving'' or she won't be charged with anything at all, circumstances in the accident dictate the outcome, for instance, the 2 wearing seat belts survived be it injured, the 1 not wearing a seat belt was killed, all these factors come into account as to whether someone will be done for dangerous driving or death by dangerous driving. I will let you all know what happens at the court case, I have no idea when that will be. Gillie XX |

I was away when you put this up in february but yes I do remember the case and wondered at the time if the girl who was killed was wearing a seat belt. (a lesson here to be learnt). Sorry to hear that the driver is to be charged but if she was indeed doing 60 in a 40 mile limit that showed an awful lack of judgement. I would say the death of her friend has probably been punishment enough, and the friend not wearing a seat belt should hopefully give mitigating circumstances. but it is difficult to see how the court case will go. Please keep us informed Oh, yes, pleased to hear that Lucy is doing OK. Ann Glos |

I'm pleased that Lucy is making progress. While I appreciate that Sas feels guilt for her friend's death, I think that it is highly likely that she will be charged with causing death by dangerous driving unless it can be shown that road conditions were responsible. The fact that it was a single vehicle accident tilts the evidence towards driver error. It is also the driver's responsibility to ensure that passengers are wearing a seat belt and the fact that she did not do so will also count against her. |

Updated today, 16th. Oh Dear, I am so upset, Sas the driver of the car that killed her best friend and seriously injured another friend has been back to the police as requested, she will appear at the Magistrates Court on the 29th May and will be charged with ..Driving with undue care and attention and Death by dangerous driving, she will then have her case refered to the Crown Court. I know she has killed someone but I really can't help feeling so sorry for her, she is in a terrible state and is suffering the guilt, killing her friend is hard enough to live with as well as the serious injury she caused to her other friend, and the suffering she has caused to the dead girls family, the parents of the girl killed are not blaming Sas in any way for her death, I dread to think what sentence she will have at the end of all this. I will keep you all informed of the outcome, I may well go to Crown Court and see the outcome and support her if I can. Gillie XX |

I am sure she will receive a small sentence. She was not over the limit.perhaps the parents of the dead girl would be allowed to appeal for leniency? My partners sister died in a head on collision. The two people in the other car were also killed. The driver was drunk and knew it. He was sentenced to three years and a five year driving ban. (he was out in 18 months) |
