I read yesterdays troubles with great dismay and nodded my head on reading Roxanne,s 'Pathetic' thread. When I joined it was a very friendly group of middle of the road people - Roxanne being a good example. The topics reflected the same. Some like CB (mentioned on another thread) could elevate the conversation where necessary, and when it was required to lighten the mood, we all laughed and joked together. Any occasional disagreement was dealt with in a civilised manner and in the 'best possible taste'. The site provided succour to a very broad spectrum of people. Those with troubles of any kind could lose their worries amongst friends for a minute; hour or what have you. No-one was afraid to post for fear of abuse. If there were any trouble makers, they remained underground as the climate was against them. Perhaps I,m wrong, but we seemed to get an influx of new members. The board appeared to change to tabloid. The standard of thread suffered; the jokes became coarser; and too many people discovered Fs;Bs and asterisks on the keyboard. A few troublemakers emerged and have caused a cancer. When I withdrew from the boards, I said they had changed and I had not changed with them. Well, sad as it is, maybe the 'good old days?' have gone. The genie is well out of the bottle, and like the old half crown, gone forever. Roxanne and myself are perhaps products of our time, (when wearing halo,s was no bad thing.) To the current membership, I would simply advise that you make the most of a wonderful site. The vast majority of the faults lie not with GR, but with the membership. Be aware of your own responsibilities. Au revoir to you all, and of course Happy days. |

Yes Harry you are quite right. We did have disagreements but nothing like this. People that didn't use to get on are also respectful of one another now but this is a completely different kettle of fish. |

You are absolutely correct, Harry and this place is so much sadder for your absence. I understand why you have withdrawn. What some of us are trying to do is bring the Boards back to some kind of 'respectability' for want of a better word, where nobody will be afraid to post but a certain set of values will reign. GR have allowed this decline to happen and I find this quite unforgiveable. You and other people of your calibre were the backbone of these Boards. You are missed. XX BC |
