Yes, but only to stop the nasty abuse and bullying that happens on some threads and boards.

Moderators which implies moderation is probably a sensitive area. Strangely enough I strongly oppose all this '1984' business where you now see us monitored in our daily life by cameras and computers and such like. They'll be giving us ID cards and taking DNA samples next! I'm not sure about moderators though. I think that there should be some system where you can report abuse. In theory this does happen on GR but we all know that in reality, there is no one there 24 hours a day so when you report it after a certain time, there is no one there and things escalate until the morning, that is why I'm probably more in favour of moderators than I used to be.

Definately yes---we may be adults and it may be a form of censorship, BUT iuntil everyone can behave like adults( the very small minority) then perhaps a moderator would be useful Carol

No! If you don't like someone, don't agree with their posts or opinions then stay away from them, Send the poster to Coventry, ignore them, You are a bigger and better person if you walk away head held high.

Very well put, Teresa. I agree with you one hundred per cent. We cannot rely on everyone being a well rounded adult and that is why we should have boundaries and moderators,. BC

I had a reply from the Abuse team this morning, just as a matter of interest... Thanks for your email I am sorry but if threads have already been removed we are unable to look at them unless they are on the site. I can confirm that I will monitor the boards closely to ensure that I try and see threads before they are removed. Best regards, Abuse Administrator The Genes Support Team So there is a step in the right direction. While I agree that we are all adults, and should be able to behave like adults, that really applies in an ideal world. The reality of it is, there are always some with problems, either with a lack of empathy for others, or who just cannot help themselves. Moderation is needed to avoid tricky situations caused by that minority, to make it better for the rest of us. Its like saying we don't need police because we should be able to behave in an adult way in society. It just doesn't happen like that.

Hi Lesley :):) Yes I would like to see independent moderation on the boards. I feel independent moderation is necessary at this time to bring stability back to the site. Even if this was to allow time to recouperate the sites expected standards. It is true that one person could never manage to work 24/7 and also that more than one person would be needed to avoid any bias. Independent would mean that those persons would be unable to be a part of the take part membership of the site. In terms of how it could be funded in the first place, Genes are losing money on a day to day basis. If 500 people walk out at anyone time and not return then that would in effect pay part of the cost towards the funding. If the site continues to spiral and gains a bad reputation then the overall losses would I imagine be a whole lot more. Once the stabilty has returned then another re think could possibly me made. Colin. Not about much today I am afraid.

The moderator question has been suggested to GR many, many times during the past few months and as far as I can see has been totally ignored by them. They have given you a Board - and now it is up to You to decide how it is run. GR have given their Terms and Conditions and you will see that we are all moderators and that is how it appears GR wish it to stay. As this question is purely to satisfy your curiousity then I would say Yes but if the intention is to approach GR on the subject ...... Dream on ! As for the job being given to a non-member you are talking about paying somebody - and I guess that GR are not that willing to part with funds for as has been said it is not a question of ONE person but several 24/7 and that surely must be a No-No. Also remember that it is not just this Board but all the others too.

I agree with David, People say who decides what happens on the site, The site owners of course, stick by their rules and you will be OK. Thats what other sites are doing so why not here.
