This is an editorial written by a British citizen, published in a National newspaper He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please! IMMIGRANTS, NOT BRITS MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on the 7th of the 7th we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Brits. However, the disgust about the attacks had barely settled when the 'politically correct! ' crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Britain , Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. (The Danes, Romans etc.) However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of the Brits being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Britons we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Indian, Urdu, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! 'Land of Hope & Glory' is our motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If the 'Union Jack' flag offends you, or you don't like our QUEEN, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our Laws give every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so! But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our lifestyle our government, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great BRITISH freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE. It is Time for Gt.Britain to Speak up If you agree -- pass this along; if you don't agree -- delete it! anon.. AMEN I think if we all keep passing this to our friends (and enemies) it will also, sooner or later get back to the complainers, lets all try, please |

Bob . No matter how hard i tried i couldn't of summed up like that . That is EXACTLY my thoughts on the subject. And to David - read Bobs entry and that is the answer to your question. |

Bob - That extract is paraphrasing of a letter written by a US man just after 9/11 and has 'done the rounds' all over the world with various changes to allow for different countries' 'mottoes'. And since when was OUR motto 'Land of Hope and Glory' - always thought it was 'Dieu et Mon Droit', which, ironically, is French ;-) |

You know David , each time i have responded to a thread like this you have responded to me in the same manner you have on this one. We are talking about a democracy you know a DEMOCRACY , free speach yeah .I am allowed an opinion just the same as you are i think you need to look back on what you have written .Its because of people like you that people are frightened of exercising what still ( at the moment) accounts as free speach |

David . Are you a polititian by any chance because you have tried to twist my words , although into what - i am still trying to figure out . Yes you have responded a number of times to a thread i have commented on and usually the subject is something similar to this one . So if the democracy is there as you say it is ( so that must mean it is then ). Then we can agree to disagree on this one as we have done on all the other ones. |

Obviously I'm one of the politically correct mob. Bob (camera dodger) objects to people who come to Britain for a better quality of life. Isn't that what most people who move countries want? Isn't it what most people everywhere want ? Lots of people from Britain have moved to Australia and other countries over the past few decades - they all went for a better quality of life. My father lives in France - he went for a better quality of life. If people stopped being so territorial and accepted people for their individual qualities people could improve their quality of life without moving. I make no apology if this offends anyone as the 'editorial' put on this thread offended me. T.O.R. |

Surely if we move to a place that we feel gives us 'a better quality of life', then we accept the disadvantages as well as the advantages, we take on the responsibilites as well as the perks. No country welcomes anyone who takes but never gives anything in return. Jay |

Janet,You have hit the nail on the head:-)) I live In spain,we have Integrated Into Spanish life/society,There are some Brits here who only want 'A little Britain' with the sunshine, they wont eat Spanish food, they wont learn spanish, they want their children to go to English Schools, does it sound familiar?? These are the same people that probably complain about the refugee in England. When they say anything derogatory about Spain to me,I just say, Go Back home!! |

T O R, With Respect, I didnt write that editorial, I only posted it.. MY particular belief is that if you join a country, you go along with the current culture of THAT country, you dont go there and try to change it so that it becomes as a facsimile of the country you have forsaken, Bob |
