Somewhere in the North East (Hull Ithink) has put up a name and shame pillar in the centre of town with pictures of people with ASBO. There was a phone in poll and 83% agreed and 17% disagreed with it. Some say they will treat it as a hall of fame and want to be put on the pillar. But others say maybe the parents will realise whats happening and take more control over their youngsters. What do youthink? I think its a good idea so that all the locals know who to avoid..

There's some news on the BBC website that is saying that ASBO's are a badge of honour now and not treated seriously so I expect youngsters are enjoying their 15 minutes of fame! ;o(

there was a woman from a childrens society defending them saying it is wrong cos you are criminalising the kids. But surely they are criminals anyway to get an ASBO

She should have been at our house last night then, and I just wonder what her response would be. Kids that were fine the previous evening were kicking our garage door, banging the front door, ringing the doorbell nonstop, shouting ........... What on earth brought this on? Hubby reckons they were hyped up on sweets from the previous evening. The word STOCKS comes to mind, kids or not. They weren't young kids, either.

I think the best thing to do with these people is to make sure they do 'Community Service' but with a little bit of a 'Difference'.They should be forced to wear a Tshirt or coat telling people what they are, i/e Thief, Mugger,Burglar, Pickpocket,Shoplifter etc.exactly what they are and what they have done. That may wipe the cockiness out of them and shame their parents into teaching them to behave and be honest. Hal.

I would go one further and have it tattooed on their forehead. No getting away from it then

Much as I don't like the thought of birching, I wonder what their reaction would be if they found that was to be their punishment; there are otherwise no punishments at all that deter kids these days. Those cocky little s**s last night knew damn well that they could do what the hell they liked - and get away with it. Hal and Cuz - love those suggestions! Brilliant. :-( Blimey, I sound grumpy today, lol.

I hate to say it but if only they hadn't banned the cane etc... You can't punish kids these days without the law coming down on you for it. If boundaries we're set...AND KEPT earlier on...who knows Caz

MaryinSpain Report 2 Nov 2006 16:46

Agree with Caz - kids know they are safe no one can touch them - the cane never hurt our generation - a gppd slap does wonders. Well that is my view- Mary in Spain xx

The headline on the front page of our local paper is a naming and shaming of a 14 year old http://www.burtonmail(.)co.uk/detail.asp?cat=General%20News&id=6938762 remove bracket Bet he has the page on his bedroom wall.

It is about time we stopped listening to the do-gooders and psychologists who think they always know best. The only way to curb this it to meet out some serious punishments that hurt. Anyone can make a mistake, so three strikes and you are out. ! is a police caution, 2. is an asbo 3. is locked up. Not a 'young offenders holiday home, but a borstal regime with coupled with compulsory training in how to act as a decent human being. Fail the course and you stay in to repeat it. Oh and lets stop all this nonsense about 'can't disclose name for legal reasons'. Shame, Name and Address every time.

Peter The little horror on the front page of my local paper was 14 and named and shamed. What did make me laugh was, it said that he had been banned from driving for 3 years. I always though that you had to be 17 to drive!!!!!!!! Margaret

Well, I was educated at St Edwards College in Liverpool during the 1960's which had a very strict code of conduct. You knew exactly where the boundaries where. Step over the line and you received the strap. No questions asked, no excuses offered. Hand out and whack. Same rules for all. and I'll tell you what, it bl''dy well hurt as well. Most only tried it the once. St Eddies has moved on, the strap has been banned and there are girls......ugh. Hovever discipline is still paramount. Truancy is negligible, as is bad behaviour, the ofsted report couldn't be better and there are five applicants to every place. Oh yes, many pupils come from less fortunate backgrounds as well. So, what is the answer?
