Hi Susie, Sorry to hear about your Dads cat, I also have a Britsh Blue a moggy and 3 dogs I work in a vets and cry my eyes out most days, I have been there eleven years so watched some of them grow up and pass on.Just think of all the pleasure they have given you and the wonderful life you gave them,other animals are not as fortunate. god bless Helen

Susie and all who have lost their pets recently, I feel for you, have been through it many times and it never gets easier. Be glad you were the ones allowed to have the love and devotion of your cats and dogs, and be proud that you were able to let them go with dignity when the going became too hard for them. Liz x

Oh Susie I know how you must all feel. 4 weeks ago today we had to have our cat Jazzy put to sleep. She was operated on 12 months ago for an overactive thyroid and was really well, adapting to life in Madeira including the flight out and two house moves while we were here, but suddenly she lost weight again and the tests confirmed her thyroid levels were up again. This time she couldn't be operated on (and she wasn't a candidate for drug treatment), it is rare for cats to be operated on out here, the vets aren't used to doing them as the locals don't look after their pets that well. We are still gutted by our loss. Below is the poem that Bob found just after her operation. Thinking of you all, Rosalind. Gavin Ewart I want him to have another living summer, to lie in the sun and enjoy the douceur de vivre – because the sun, like golden rum in a rummer, is what makes an idle cat un tout petit peu ivre – I want him to lie stretched out, contented, revelling in the heat, his fur all dry and warm, an Old Age Pensioner, retired, resented by no one, and happinesses in a beelike swarm to settle on him – postponed for another season that last fated hateful journey to the vet from which there is no return (and age the reason), which must soon come – as I cannot forget.

Hi susie,Im so sorry! I do understand how you feel, she was a very lucky cat to have so much love, she will always be with you in spirit,thats for sure. shes now playing on Rainbow bridge,No pain,just waiting to be reunited with her family one day. Roxanne xxx

Susie.. I 'm so sorry to hear this sad news... Lost my cat in August though cancer.. Devastating. Sending lots of huggles.. Pat Oh have just read the poem.....bawling my eyes out....

catherine dad has brought mishka home. in his garden he has a miniature rose bush in a beautiful stone garden pot. this pot stands on a paving slab in the middle of dads lawn. it is the grave of all of their cats which have died over the years. mishka will be buried along side them.never to be forgotten susie xx

I know it's hard susie, but she had some years there bless her. Wouldn't have been nice if she was suffering. Do something nice, when I lost my puss, stupid I know I put all her toys and pics of the family in her grave so she wouldn't be lonely and planted a lovely shrub that I tend to regular and I go down the garden and have a chat with her everyso often. I have another cat now had her 6 yrs but you don't ever forget. catherine xx

i remember the day nan got mishka....and the time she desided to give birth in the wardrobe bless her lol.but the 1 thing i will never forget is ur gorgeous big eye and lovely face . sweet dream mishky oh mum just told shin and she said oh thank god it wasnt penny lol limmie xxx

Oh I feel very sorry for Mishka and your dad. We lost our Mog too in August. he had seemed off !! for the previous week,couldnt say what but didnt seem him self, investigation by the vet revealed multiple tumours in his abdomen and we agreed to let him go whilst under the anaethestic,kindest thing for him!! But do you know hubby and me have heard him at the patio doors scratching to come in since then. Was very spooky but at least hubby heard it too last week and opened the door cos he thought was our other cat. but she was upstairs at the time!!

So sorry for you all, had to have my dog put down earlier this year, she was 12 and had never shown any sign of being ill, had a tumour on spleen which ruptured, was a big shock as it happened suddenly, still miss her, know exactly how you feel. Also have a cat, having her has been a comfort. Jackie

You're welcome, Susie, though I can't claim the credit for it I'm afraid. In 1997, when Bob and I were taking our 15-y-o Tiger puss to the vets for his regular injection for his failing kidneys, that poem was on the notice board in Reception. The lady there knew that time was running out for Tiger and offered to take a copy of it for us. I know it was written with a dog in mind, but I still think it's lovely. x Thank you too, Nanna.
