Perhaps someone ought to remind this clergyman, that men and women of all faiths fought in the World Wars.......if he doesn't know this, he is an ignorant man...... |

I don`t understand how he can do this without the consent of the Parish Church Council,(every parish has one),unless they want the traditional rememberence service and he wants a more multicultural service and they have rejected this idea. If he has cancelled because of this he risks losing his congregation. For example when our new vicar came to our church I informed him that on Remembrance Sunday, we start with 2minutes silence, then the wreath is laid on the steps of the altar, then we sing our National Anthem. As church warden I can assure you if he had vetoed this idea,it would have been put before the parish council for discussion and he could be overuled. I am not Cof E but Church of Wales but we still come under Canterbury. Gwyn |

Does the silly man not realise that all colours and creeds have fought and died since 1914? Does he not realise that when all is said and done this is a christian country and someone, somewhere should stand up for our beliefs - particularly an anglican vicar. If it was our vicar I should imagine a lynching party would have gone out by now. Ann |

Just informed my husband of this - as an ex-serviceman he is furious on behalf of those he served with of different creeds to him and says the Bishop should chuck Vicar out as he is not fit to serve the word of God. Ann |

Hi Aileen, where did you get this report please? The reason I ask is that I've seen Michele's thread re 'Why wear a Poppy?' and someone suggested (perhaps tongue in cheek) that this vicar see this poem, and I agree. I tried Googling to try and get some location/see the article in question, but can't find it - perhaps I'm not looking closely enough! lol I feel very strongly on this as, like most people, I lost relatives in both wars, and visited the grave of one of them in Belgium this year. This vicar's actions insult their memories, and I wish him to receive a copy of that poem. x |

Glenys - I suggested that the vicar see this poem and it was definitely not tongue in cheek - I lost close relatives in WW2 including my grandad. I am so cross about this vicar as is my husband being an ex-serviceman. Ann |

Ann, I'm with you there. Still having no luck finding anywhere to send it, and I really do intend this person getting the poem. x |
