Hello Aileen, As I'm now 59, I'm on your side, and been using this computer for the last 4 years. I now use a Mac, and have learnt a lot I must admit, but I do believe I could revert back to the way I was without any trouble. The computer for me now is a convenience only, plus of course being able to talk to whoever I wish. xx

Hi, Yes it is a wonderful invention but personally if it blew up tomorrow I wouldn't really worry. Only started using it again last month as it has been on the blink since the beginning of the year. Unfortunately for millions it is a way of life and I find that disturbing. In many instances computers are doing your thinking for you. Scary. We rely too much on machines in all aspects of life these days. I just hope it doesn't at some time in the future come back and bite us in the bum. How many could cope if the plug was pulled. My generation (50s+) could. We could go back to doing things manually. The younger generation wouldn't have a clue. Aileen xxx

I use it in the spare room and he gets peace but his computer is also there now so sometimes we end up in the same room! But I have found so much family tree info, contacted school friends on Friends Reunited ,e- mailed people and done an OU course online -not genealogy. Ros

Ahhh, Fiona, just think how excited you'd feel, knowing I was sending you a description, with photographs, through the snail mail, of our classic fish and chips, sausage and chips, savaloy and chips, pie and chips, better not go on, don't want you to get a hankering for our traditional fish and chips LOL xx

Fiona Report 27 Oct 2006 22:38

Well, I guess I could go back to writing and posting letters. And I guess I don't have to be on here talking to others in England and all over the world. NO!! I couldn't do without it!! I'd be curled up in a corner going insane, crying my eyes out!!!! And I'd have no one to descibe fish and chips to me! Fiona. xx

Hiya Fiona, I agree entirely sweet, but is it becoming an essential part of your everyday life, and would you be able to function properly without it.

I must admit that I didn't really want a computer at home, but now we've got one & I realise what you can glean from it, I'd be totally lost without it. Angela

Hello Rosalyn, And how many people actually learn from the computer by searching, and not just by downloading a pre formatted programme, which tells you what to do and learn ?

Fiona

Fiona Report 27 Oct 2006 22:21

Baz, I'm in America more than 3,000 miles away, without my pc I couldn't reply to you so quick or see what you had written. It's great for me my friends can get pictures and letters in seconds, can the postal serivce do that? Fiona. xx

How many of us will get DVT (deepvein thrombosis) because of sitting so long at the computer? Ros

Essex Baz

Essex Baz Report 27 Oct 2006 22:18

Hiya Angie, Certainly does. Makes you wonder if it's at all needed, I know it's convenient, and I know it's the greatest invention since sex, but is it becoming a part of our bodies that needs to be exercised daily.?
