My Dad has been gone a week. What have I learned? We have brought up our sons to be warm, loving young men who are not afraid to show emotion. I have a kind, beautiful daughter. I am surrounded by a family who love me - my children, my husband, my brother and sister, my nephews and my Mum. I have lost my Dad but I have learned so much in the last week. How lucky am I? Susan

Hi Susan, I too am a great believer in people living on in us, because of the important part they played in our lives and helped to shape us. When someone says 'By eck, your'e just like your Dad' or 'Your Mum would have said that', I take it as a great compliment to the two wonderful people who brought me up. Jay

susan i know what you mean. my sister and i are like chalk and cheese and havent really spoken to each other properly for years. as i walked into the room ,she walked out.i would say hello debs and she would just grunt. but its all changed since my mum had her stroke. we now get on so well and its lovely to have my sister back. we laugh and chat together so much now its so sad though to think that my mum had to be so ill before we we spoke. love to you and your family susan susie xxx

Your dad has left a wonderful legacy - a family to be proud of. It'll not always be easy but you'll all get through it.

Susan, I remember the week after my Dad died too, last year. It was a very surreal time, as though it was all happening to someone else, but at the same time, I really felt surrounded by love, not just from my living family, my Mum, my sister, my stepmum even, but surrounded by Dad's love too. My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family xxx

Thank you everyone. Please make sure you say 'I love you' often. It was my last words to my Dad and for the first time in weeks he looked at me and gave me a 'Dad' smile. Susan
