If her immune system has taken a battering then she could still contract GM. I know vaccination or having contracted a disease is not 100%. My grandmother had regular measles three times! |

Janet I must admit I hadn't thought of German Measles! She did, however, have the GM jab at school. In a way, I wish they WOULD find something - people are starting to ask if it might be that dreaded cop-out, STRESS. OC |

OC she has a lot of the syptoms of German measles. As she has been laid low by the anti malarial/ antibiotics she may be prone to all sorts of infections. |

Hi PP Yes, I phoned my daughter's surgery and spoke to the Practice Nurse. She was lovely - said that while she could not discuss my daughter's medical problems with me, she would pass on my concern in a memo to Dr X. But she said that GENERALLY speaking, a routine blood test often picks up leukaemia, even when they are not specifically looking for that, and, that as Dr X 'is very thorough and conscientious, and I am sure leukaemia would have been one of the things she would have wanted to rule out - some people do not have any symptoms of leukaemia and it only comes to light through a routine blood test for something else' My daughter has an appointment on Friday to see Dr X and the nurse said she will probably order 'more tests'. I feel a lot happier about this now, but still worried about my daughter of course - thankyou for your concern. OC |

I do hope that your daughter will be okay, O C. Yes, I have found it good to be able to air things here, too. No, Bryan you can blame me - for sending you the PM! |

OC, just getting into bed, work tomorrow, but can i just say that her doctor would not specifically have mentioned leukemia, as he had no reason to... the full blood count will show any problems, then its time to do more tests, such as a referral to a specialist, maybe an oncologist... but from what you have said, the blood count was normal.... so maybe her doctor needs to sit with her, and get to the bottom of the problem... i wish her well, and if i'm tired tomorrow, i will blame you :o) bryan. |

Just Gillian Well, yes, that is what I thought, because the GP spent quite a long time examining her, including her painful rib (which she has always had, but has got much worse since she lost weight) and her swollen neck glands. I am sure I am over reacting, but I just want the GP to say, yes, we tested for leukaemia - I shouldn't be looking at these things late at night! The leaflet with the medication did mention stomach upsets (yes) and probably a mild rash (yes), but nothing about bruising. Her workplace is so concerned about her that they called her in for a serious chat about anorexia - she hasn't got that, eats well and healthily and was not trying to lose any weight, although the medication did make her nauseous and off her food. Thankyou for all your concern - it is such a relief to have somewhere to air these things when you have no-one around to talk to. OC |

what happens gillian, is they do a full blood count, and where there's an anomaly, they ask for further tests. bryan. |

Bryan Thanks for your reply. My daughter does not live with me (200 miles away) so not sure if her GP will discuss this with me - but perhaps she will listen while I give her instructions lol! I will try this tomorrow. OC |

OC - Would it be possible for you to phone and have a word with her doctor, in confidence, say that you realise the doctor cannot discuss her with you but would they take your concern into account, but not say anything to her about your call. Then you could be sure the doctor will check everything possible. Good luck, hope she will soon be fine again. Liz ps. haven't forgotten grant info |

this is really a question for a doctor, which i'm not.firstly the person will be checked by his / her doctor for swelling of glands, liver, spleen, swelling of tummy etc. if the doctor feels it necessary, they will ask for a full blood count ( fasting ) they will be looking at the amount of white blood cells. what you have described omits many symptoms, one of which is regular vomitting... best ring the surgery, and ask the doctor for more information. hope all is well.... bryan. |

Thanks - my daughter (26) was diagnosed with Lyme's Disease about three months ago. She took a long course of antibiotics and antimalarial drugs, which made her feel very ill. She is off them now, but has lost a great deal of weight, is exhausted all the time and says she is covered from head to foot in little, unexplained bruises. She went to her GP who gave her a thorough examination and sent her for blood tests at the hospital. These came back today '100% normal'. I have just looked up the symptoms of leukaemia and she has every one of the symptoms, including a very sore throat, aching joints, pallor, sudden weight loss, bruising etc. She says she feels 'ill' - unusual for her as she is normally skipping around full pelt like any other woman of her age.(She is DEFINITELY not pregnant btw) She is going back to the GP on Friday to ask for more tests - I have not mentioned leukaemia to her as I don't want to frighten her, but as you can imagine, I am panicking.
