I don't know why we change them at all of GMT, but why now at end of October, then at end of March the other way surely it should be end of February to be equal. lol |

Changing the clocks can't alter the sun ! You work your hours around midday to equalize it. Bob |

It's going to be dark at one end of the day, whatever you do with the clocks - personally I prefer lighter mornings! |

I'm not in the far North of Scotland but for what it's worth the change in the clocks is considered most beneficial for school-children. Idea being they will not be walking in the dark - I know, not many do walk nowadays! - at 8.30 and 3.30. I can't remember which year the clocks were left but I do recall a spate of incidents and a number of disgruntled people! It's now nearly end of October - in 54 days time it will be the shortest day, uphill from then on! By the way, in Skye on June 21st it never gets truly dark! Where my mother lives, there is no light pollution so you see the true night - and it doesn't happen! |

Does anyone remember when they decided NOT to change the clocks? Must have been c. 1970 I get up around 5am so it's dark anyway at this time of year but next week it will be lighter then surely? Kate has confused me now ! My children are adults now but I would not have liked them to set off for secondary school with their friends in the darkness, if the clocks didn't change. Gwyn |

Perhaps we should get up when it's light and go to bed when it's dark. In mid December we'll only have time for a quick snack at lunchtime...... |

There is no logic to it. For every argument for there is one against. It is for us adjust our lives around the available light as man as always done. Countries nearer the equator don't have a significant change of daylight time. Bob |

I dread it when the clocks go back at this time of year. It's hard enough getting out of bed early during the week, but when it's pitch-black it's just miserable. |

This argument crops up every time, and to be honest it's seems pretty pointless nowadays. I suspect more accidents are caused at dusk irrespective of wehat time of year it is. That said I do believe there is a benefit in Northern Scotland. It must be very depressing finding it nightime at 2 pm. |
