One of the more interesting progs. She's no snob. A snob is pretentious but she doesn't need to be as she already has it all; wealth, education, sophistication but doesn't flaunt it. I like and admire her (at least, judging by what came across on the tv). len

Well!! I.ve just watched the programme & didnt think it was too bad. A lot of Jewish connections which didnt go very far but thats her background & she learnt a lot of where she was from. I thought the connection to Lyons Corner Houses was interesting as I remember them from th 1950,s when sis and i used to have our lunch at the Fleet Street one .

Shows you how we all see things differently doesnt it......i just found her attitude so lacking emotion, it wasnt even her plumby accent, it was her mouth that wouldnt move....couldnt take my eyes off her mouth, pleased i recorded it.

I liked it and I like her. Don't think being plummy and slightly reticent is a bad thing any more than having a different sort of accent and being totally over the top is. She's just a human being. People are what they are based partly on their background and mostly what they've made of themselves, which is pretty much what she said at the end. I found her family connections and history pretty interesting and ok they made some assumptions but those assumptions may encourage her to delve further and the history surrounding them may help someone else with their research. Hubby actually watched this one but seemed very disappointed that she didn't eat choccie cake off her fingers. I did tell him it wasn't THAT sort of programme! Daisy

I thought it was quite an interesting one this week. Last week's one bored me silly and I gave up watching it (can't even remember whose tree it was LOL). My dad worked in management for J. Lyons (ice cream division) during the 1960s so I was quite interested to hear all about the roots of the company. I was telling a rellie earlier that the only thing I found a bit strange with Nigella was her complete composure when being shown a photo of one of her way-back ancestors, like it was an everyday occurrence. I recalled how, when being shown a photo of my grt grt grandad for the first time, I was squealing with delight, jumping up and down in my seat...and then I got all emotional and cried!! I suppose it's the upper class stiff upper lip and all that jazz, that kept her emotions in tact, eh? I think I was more excited about seeing her ancestor than she was LOL

well I think she is lovely and not stuck up its just the way she talks, I agree she seemed upset about the thief in the family but then so would most decent people who had not researched their family Tree, and found it was quite common.I found it more interesting that she was named Nigella and her sister Thomasina I wonder why their parents gave them extended boys names..

Well I quite enjoyed the programme - kept my interest far more than many of the others. The most boring for me were David Tennant and Colin Jackson.

I thought it was interesting enough. Agree with Sioux etc that she can't help being posh - just as some of us can't help talking with a cockney accent that gets us branded 'common'. The only criticism I would have is the part about her grandfather going to Belson - I thought they would have gone for the War Diary of his regiment to see for sure if he was there. I really like the way this series delves into the backgrounds of the ancestors more. It's the stuff that I would love to find out about my own family, but can't! Maz. XX

I thought the voice on the advert was Dervla Kirwan who was in Ballykissangel. I haven't seen yesterdays WDYTYA yet so can't comment but my son thinks Nigella is beautiful, lol. Heather

Well i like her,,,she makes me feel thinner,, And i like her cooking, I suppose the programme would be more interesting if you had jewish ancestors and fairly boring if you havent, Didnt her brother look like his Dad?

Couldn't agree more, one of the less interesting ones!! Besides that she already had her tree done and I got the feeling she already knew most of what she found out!!

Helen in Kent Report 12 Oct 2006 09:06

Well aren't you all being hard on her? She is just a product of her upbringing as we all are!! I agree with Guinevere, I found it all really interesting despite having no Jewish ancestors (as far as I know!) because I knew very little about their history. I have enjoyed most of this series because of all the different social groups and histories in it.
