Hi Sue, I too am a scouser born in Beaumont Street, my mum and dad married in St. Clements. I went to Granby Street School we moved to Sidney Gardens in Smithdown Lane, and then moved to Speke. I remember going to the wash house with my gran, it was by Lodge Lane baths, somewhere! Everyone took their washing in a old pram...then we got posh... and my gran got her mangle lol. At the back of Beaumont St there was a bakery it was called Braithwaits...I can smell those pies now. I would go for a loaf and by the time I got it home there were no edges on it cos I ate them. Walking home from school I would call into the chandlers and get 2d worth of Aunt Sally...do you remember that? It made fantastic bubbles...I can smell that too. I used to love Sefton Park and Princes Park, spent many a day playing there with my dripping butties and my lemonade made with sherbet powder. Peter Pan Statue, Wendy's House and the Peacocks they never opened their tails until my back was turned! I have thought about going back to see my old haunts but after reading your experience I think I will just keep my very happy memories. I had better stop now before this turns into a book....hope to speak again soon. Beryl x |

karen, do you know that beaconsfield rd was a well to do place in 1915 the householders had servents(my g grandmother was one of them)dad tells me that he remembers it as being a lovely place in the 50s, and mum says it was lovely there when i went to school( my mum would never have sent me to school there if it was a scruffy place)i was really shaken after our day out in lpool, it was like going into a warsone(excuse my spelling, i cant remember how to spell that, and i got a b in english) but it was a long time ago, it makes me very sad to see my beloved liverpool in such a state..xxxx love mexx |

Hi Just thiking about Lodge Lane baths we went there with the school Clint Road and Edge Hill to learn to swim dont build baths like them any more . We used to go to the Tunnel Cinama (We called it the Bug House) on Saturday Morning with a tanner buy penny Walkers and black jacks run riot upstairs then go to Botanic park where they had a play centre and if you where thirsty you would get a drink of water from the water taps situated arround the park.
